Vienna is banning used clothing drop-off bins
Wieder ein Verbot, die Stadt Wien verbietet ab 2027 Altkleider-Container im öffentlichen Raum.
Als Begründung wird angegeben, dass diese oft überfüllt sind, bzw. von Müllsammlern trotz Sicherheitssystem durchwühlt werden und Kleider dann um die Container liegen gelassen werden.
Ein weiteres Problem ist, dass die Leute oft auch Müll oder Kleider, die eigentlich entsorgt gehören, in die Container kippen.
Und last but not least kommen die Kleider in der Regel nicht bedürftigen Menschen zugute, sondern werden oft in ärmeren Ländern weiterverkauft, was dort die Textilindustrie belastet.
Denke, für diese First-World-Probleme würde es eine Lösung geben, wenn man wollte.
Stattdessen werden die Container jetzt verboten, die übrigens nicht von der Stadt, sondern von privaten Betreibern profit-orientiert betrieben werden.
Vielleicht sollte die Stadt im Gegenzug eigene Container anbieten, um Kleider zu sammeln.
Was sagt ihr dazu? Habt ihr in eurer Stadt ebenfalls solche Container? Wie findet ihr das Sammelsystem für alte Kleider?

Yet another ban: Starting in 2027, the City of Vienna will ban used clothing donation bins in public spaces.
The city cites as reasons that these bins are often overfilled, or that scavengers rummage through them despite security measures, leaving clothes scattered around the bins.
Another problem is that people often dump trash or clothes that should actually be thrown away into the containers.
And last but not least, the clothes generally do not benefit people in need but are often resold in poorer countries, which puts a strain on the textile industry there.
I think there would be a solution to these First World problems if there were a will to find one.
Instead, the containers are now being banned, containers that, by the way, are not operated by the city but by private, profit-driven operators.
Perhaps the city should offer its own used clothes containers for collecting clothes in return.

Wenn man Container einfach nur abschafft, ohne Ersatzsystem, würde das kurzfristig eher zu mehr Vermüllung führen. ähnlich wie man es heute teilweise schon bei Elektroschrott oder Sperrmüll sieht. Langfristig wird das Thema wahrscheinlich eher in Richtung Textilrecycling wie beim Verpackungsmüll gehen. Also stärker reguliert, mit Produzentenverantwortung und sortenreiner Sammlung. Ich habe kürzlich gelesen, dass die EU bereits an strengeren Vorgaben arbeitet.

Of course, both homeless people and rats get into the containers. Sometimes a homeless person even gets trapped inside and dies. Other times, firefighters have to rescue the homeless person.
But I'm not aware of any plans by the city to ban the containers. There will be municipal elections in Prague this fall. Perhaps Prague will take a cue from Vienna.
There are many problems in the world for which I see no solution. This is one of them.

STOPWe have a lot of new items in our secondhand clothing stores. My wife bought me a brand new summer shirt for 1 euro. I'm thrilled. I don't think the store makes much money with prices like that.
I think instead of banning it, the government should think of a way to improve the process of collecting the old clothes being donated

I don't think there are bins, but there are places you can drop them off, and sometimes they ask for theem.
