Truth be told, I think we all have a toxic relationship with rain.

When we're at home, sometimes very comfortable with a cup of coffee, we can watch the rain as pure poetry. It's a perfect vibe, like having a lo-fi jazz playlist while we stare out the window with the look of existential philosophers, enjoying the smell of wet earth and thinking, damn, nature is beautiful.

But all this changes when we have to go outside.

A few days ago, the sky decided that my 15-block walk to an important meeting—since I'm unemployed and looking for a new job—was the perfect time to create a universal flood. With my best clothes and clean shoes, the last thing I expected was rain like that.

Surely, I could imagine an elegant walk under a large black umbrella, gracefully stepping over puddles like a dancer. But the reality is that I don't even have an umbrella, and my luck is backed by an old sweater I bought on sale for a dollar. On this very day, this same sweater decided to act like a satellite dish, with gusts of wind blowing directly in my face, and the sweater seemed like the breeze wanted to rip it off me.

And there I was, fighting against this skeleton I call bones, waiting for some form of public transportation. A vehicle passed by me with sniper-like precision, kicking up a wave worthy of a water park that ended up christening my shoes, which were not in perfect condition either.

The funniest thing about this whole affair was my reaction, that little nervous laugh you get when you know there's no turning back, and I stood there soaked from head to toe, looking at a lady who was watching me with pity from a balcony. I gestured to her that everything was under control, don't worry, while water dripped from my nose, but I wasn't under control. The truth is, nothing was under control.

But this is where the greatness of rain lies, as it has the power to make us all equal.

At that moment, I saw a man in a somewhat elegant suit, as if he were an executive, carrying a briefcase and running as if fleeing an apocalypse. Next to him was a girl with smudged makeup, laughing with her friend. They shared that laughter because they were both under a tiny umbrella that barely covered their ears.

At the end of my journey, although I looked like a newly rescued castaway, I kept going as I entered and felt the warmth of the place. I ordered a coffee and realized something: the rain forces us to slow down and takes away that mask of perfection, reminding us that sometimes all you can do is get wet, laugh at your own misfortune, and wait for it to stop.

After all, there's nothing a hot bath and a good story to tell can't fix.

I'd like to ask you, guest authors, what you enjoy most about the rain. Do you enjoy the sound of raindrops on the roof from your bed, or are you one of those who ends up fighting with the wind and your sweater gets torn? I'd like to read your worst or best anecdote under the rain here in the comments.
