Sometimes I ask myself a simple question: If I didn't have to worry about money, work, family responsibilities or finding time, what would I actually love to study?
My answer would simply be entrepreneurship and business management.
And honestly, I would not be studying it just to collect another certificate.
I would study it because life has already taught me that doing business is not as easy as it looks from the outside.
You can have a good idea. You can work hard. You can put your money into something you believe in. But if you don't understand how to manage the business properly, things can still go wrong.
I have experienced some of these things myself.
I have tried different ways of making a living, and I have also had experience with poultry farming. There is a completely different feeling when you put your own money into buying birds, feeding them every day, cleaning their space and watching them grow.
You begin to understand that farming is not just about raising animals. It's also a business.
Feed costs money. Medication costs money. Transportation costs money. Time has value too. And at the end of everything, you still need to sell at a price that gives you enough return to continue.
This is where I would love to improve my knowledge.
If I had the opportunity, I would learn about financial management, business planning, marketing, customer relationships, investment and how to grow a small business without taking unnecessary risks.
I would take what I learn and apply it directly to agriculture and other businesses I may venture into in the future.
I would also love to understand how successful entrepreneurs think.
Not just the stories we hear about how someone started with nothing and became successful, but the things that happened in between, the mistakes, failed decisions, financial setbacks and difficult moments that people don't always talk about.
Because those are the lessons I think we need the most.
And if the knowledge helped me build something successful, I would not want to keep everything to myself.
I would share what I learn with other young people who want to start something but don't know where to begin. Sometimes, someone doesn't need millions of naira to start. They may simply need the right information, proper planning and someone to show them what they should avoid.
For me, that's the real purpose of education.
Learn something. Apply it. Make mistakes. Improve. Then help someone else.
So, if I suddenly had unlimited time to study anything I wanted, entrepreneurship would be my choice.
