Mi experiencia reciente con LeoDex.io - My experience with LeoDex.io

English Translation

Hello, Hive friends!

For days I’ve been meaning to write this post, but I hadn’t found the time. I want to make something clear before starting: what I’ll share here is my personal experience testing LeoDex.io—the good, the bad, and the doubts I had. I’m not writing it as an absolute truth or with the intention of attacking anyone; if I’m missing context or there are explanations I don’t know about, I’ll be glad to read them in the comments.

(If you don’t know what LeoDex is yet, I recommend this GitBook with all the details: https://leodex.inleo.io/)

As context, leodex.io used to work as an interface for trading Hive Engine tokens: you could swap between HIVE and SWAP.HIVE, as well as buy or sell tokens like LEO, DEC, PAL, NEOXAG, and many others. Now it has evolved into a swap system between cryptocurrencies on different networks. I’ve had mixed experiences with this type of tool, especially because on Hive I’m spoiled by not paying fees, and here they are part of the process. That said, here’s my experience.

The Good

The first thing I noticed is that the interface is very well designed, with a modern look. On Hive we don’t always have such polished interfaces, so that was a positive surprise. Overall it’s intuitive, though there are details I still don’t fully understand.

I also liked seeing many wallet connection options. Personally, I mostly use MetaMask, and that one works without any issues.

The Bad

I did notice the lack of Hive Keychain integration (I remember it was there before). I suppose that’s related to recent changes in the relationship between projects, but in any case, it’s no longer possible to swap HIVE directly from there.

Another detail: when I connect my wallet at leodex.io/leo and refresh the page, it disconnects and forces me to reconnect from scratch. It might be a minor bug and surely fixable, but it’s a bit annoying. I admit I haven’t reported it formally.

The Fees

I decided to send 100 LEO from Hive Engine to Arbitrum. In the end, I received 89.25, which surprised me because it feels like a high fee. I understand that swaps like this have costs and that those tokens are allocated somewhere within the system, but from a user’s perspective it feels heavy.

Once on Arbitrum, I staked. That didn’t cost me any LEO, though I did have to pay ETH gas fees (something normal on almost any network). For now, rewards are scheduled to start on September 23, which is why there are still few stakers (38 of us at the time of writing this).

Open Questions

Here I want to pause and make something clear: the following is not an accusation, but rather questions that arose and that someone else can probably clarify better.

  • While checking the LEO richlist, I saw that the cubfinance account received more than 3 million LEO tokens a couple of months ago (around 10% of the supply). I understand this could be part of a development fund or a strategic move, but since I couldn’t find public explanations about it, it raised doubts for me.

You can see it here and here

  • Another thing that caught my attention is this balance on Hive Engine: @honey-swap. The amount in SWAP.HIVE there is much higher than the current or even possible HIVE supply, and I can’t quite understand the reason. Surely there’s some technical context I don’t know, but from the outside it raises questions.

Again, I want to stress: there may be totally reasonable explanations. My intention is rather to open the conversation to learn more about it.

Conclusion

My experience with LeoDex.io leaves me with mixed feelings. Technically, it has positives: the interface is attractive, there are staking options, but the reality is that it no longer has any relation with Hive. That makes it hard to see it as part of our ecosystem.

I also don’t want this post to sound like I’m siding with inLeo, because I’m not. Personally, I don’t agree with several of their decisions and outcomes, especially with the way they’ve extracted value from Hive and now seem to be moving those resources to other networks.

At the same time, I’m not convinced by the response of some of the most powerful in Hive either, using automated downvotes. I understand the intention, but those downvotes also end up affecting regular users who, beyond being part of inLeo, are Hivers. And if they feel they no longer have a place here, many will probably end up leaving.

What matters most to me in the end is Hive as an ecosystem. That’s why I share this experience and these doubts: with the intention that we can reflect as a community on how we take care of what we have, without falling into internal wars that in the end weaken us all.

A user will never like to pay such a high fee because he works hard here and collects things by creating daily content, and when he transfers to another chain and the deep hues decrease, it is not good at all for the users, they will not use it.

The only thing I've heard about from your questions/doubts (but haven't kept a close eye on Inleo/Leodex recently) is regarding the fee. Someone who I think knows more than I do about Inleo/Leodex nowadays wrote that bridge fee for LEO is 10%. And that LEO fee is burned. I didn't know it was so high, but seems consistent with what LEO you received on Arbitrum. My previous info about that was that it would be up to 5%. But looks like things are in constant flux.

I understand the fees, I’m more worried about the 3 million tokens minted on the cubfinance account.

About using LeoDEX? The platform works pretty well for swapping currencies, I've just kind of paid all the fees because I was only testing to see if it worked properly. I like how Keystore works. Apparently it's also used on other apps that work with Maya/Thorchain like the Moca wallet.

Biggest bummer for me is no support for @keychain. It used to work with Keychain, but not anymore. Guess I'll have to wait for @vsc.network.
