Dealing with Hive Keys Problem

One of the reasons why it's difficult to retain users on the hive platform is the complications associated with managing Hive keys. The multiplicity of a hive account keys is not something a lot of new users find easy to deal with, and this makes onboarding process very stressful especially when dealing with people who are not familiar with Blockchain.

There are a lot of people who have created Hive accounts using the ecency frontend with only account password available to them and have no knowledge about their private keys or how to properly secure their accounts. And some don't even know that there is a login and log out function on the ecency frontend, and when they have problem with their device, they lost access to their accounts.

I spent over 1 hour today trying to help a new user access her keys because she only has a password that she obtained when she signed up from the ecency frontend. The user don't even know that account has private keys or where to find them. She told me she has lost an account with 11 HBD in the wallet before because she couldn't login from a new device and have no way to recover the account which makes her to open a new account.

Why she contacted me was that she wanted to know how she can withdraw the HBD and hive rewards she has been able to earn and sell them. That was how I knew she didn't have access to her keys and didn't understand anything about it. It took me a while to explain to her about the importance of private keys, and then guild her through the process of finding the keys on ecency app using the password she had.

It was a whole lot of exercise as I also guilded her to add her account to keychain app and add her private keys to be able to swap her HBD for HIVE. This isn't the first time I am encountering such situation. The last person I helped went through a similar process and eventually gave up on the platform because she couldn't deal with the technical complexity of managing private keys.

People would love to join Hive if only there can be a one secured login and wallet management system that doesn't requires dealing with multiple keys. This would make onboarding much smoother and reduce the barrier of entry to new users who do not have previous knowledge about Blockchain and web3 platforms.
