Today I was hanging out at my uncle's house using the internet when, for some reason, I turned around and saw the parrot, which quickly greeted me and said, "Speak clearly." I immediately laughed, since this is a phrase we use a lot here in Venezuela, and I started thinking about how interesting it is that parrots can remember words even though their tiny brains, proportionally speaking, could be doing other things. So I started researching what special abilities parrots have. that parrots have.
Parrots are very intelligent birds, and we usually recognize and identify them by the vibrant colors of their feathers. This particular species is known for its ability to mimic sounds and learn words. Here in Venezuela, we find an impressive variety of these birds, each adapted to its local environment.
Here in the Monagas state region, the tropical climate and abundant vegetation provide an ideal habitat for many types of parrots. These birds usually inhabit wooded areas such as jungles or savannas, especially places where they can find fruits and seeds to feed on. Here, it is common to see birds eating mangoes while we enjoy their behavior, which is usually playful and curious, making these animals fascinating both in the wild and in captivity.
This achievement that I am presenting to you is in a safe and warm environment where it receives proper care. This does not mean that I support or am in favor of these animals being in captivity. As you may remember, a few weeks ago I shared a photograph of another type of bird that was in the wild. Even so, this cage is comfortable for them because the surrounding vegetation closely resembles their comfort zone and, at the same time, there is fruit nearby that makes it very easy for them to feed. And because this cage is located very close to the house in an area where people are always coming and going, talking, even I come every day to connect to the Wi-Fi and listen to music on some occasions. This means that this animal hears more and more new words, but it only has the ability to say a few, perhaps eight words, as it knows how to say hello, goodbye, and also some words that are colloquial slang.
- I started to read a little more in depth about these birds, as there are different types of specimens, the best known of which are the following:
First, we have Amazon parrots, which are known for their ability to talk and their intelligence. Second, we have macaws, with their majestic colors and their characteristic of being highly sociable. We also have parakeets, which are small birds and are usually found in large numbers here in the area. It is very common to have these birds in homes. And last but not least, we have quetas, birds that are less well known but equally fascinating because of their colors and behavior. The rest of the birds that we can find here in the area do not fall into the parrot category.
With this post, I want to invite you to take better care of birds. This is a commitment that brings me a lot of joy. Their presence reminds me of our natural wealth. I know that the one I am presenting here is in captivity, but there are still many here that are free, and I can watch them every day picking fruit from different trees. If you enjoy this as much as I do, we must remember that it is our responsibility to protect their habitat. I hope this post inspires you inspires you to learn and appreciate these wonderful birds a little more.
