Greetings, Fabulous Felines and Hoomans of Hivelandia and surrounding communities!

Today — August 27th — marks the 2nd anniversary of when our two most recent additions Shangri and Nala came to live with us to make this their forever home!

First Day in their new home!

They came to us from the same local animal shelter from which my Hoomans found me.

They were two very nervous (large) kittens in search of a forever home and they were the last two from a litter of nine kittens. I say they were nervous because they spent their last 3 weeks at the shelter in the showcase pen at the front of the animal shelter which is loud and filled with people coming and going and barking dogs and more.

We are very happy to have these two lovely and very sweet natured cats as part of our family now, but it took quite a while for them to actually trust that it was a safe place to be.

For their first three weeks here they lived exclusively in a quiet guest room at the back of the house where they could just get used to the Hoomans and to their surroundings without a lot of noise.

Of course, I would get to go in and visit them from time to time but only with Hooman supervision.

Two years later, they are fully integrated into our household and each has their own personality along with their own idiosyncrasies and funny quirks.

Nala in the sun

Nala is the small eternally curious Calico girl kitty who is always getting into things and follows people around from room to room.

She spends many of her days sleeping in the big cat bed that has become a permanent part of the Dad-Hooman's work desk.

Shangri, chilling

Shangri has grown into a fluffy gentle giant and is often known by his affectionate nickname "the Flooffer." He is one of the gentlest and most sweet natured cats our Hoomans have ever known.

He remains quite reserved and shy when there are other people around and has several hiding places in the house where he can remain largely invisible while still being able to see what's going on.

Playtime!

Both Shangri and Nala seem to have underlying things that terrify them and we suspect that that will never go away.

For example, when a heavy truck drives by on the road outside, or one of the delivery people from FedEx or Amazon pulls into the driveway they fly out of wherever they were doing and run and hide.

Aren't I pretty?

We are not sure what sort of abuse or trauma they endured when they were kittens, but we fear that it is something that is just not going to change. The only thing that has changed is that instead of being gone for several hours after they hear a noise that scares them, now they're usually back after about five minutes, sometimes less.

Regardless, we are extremely happy to have them as part of our family and we're glad to provide them a safe place in which to live.
