Eight Years in Remission

It's a bit crazy just how time moves so quickly. It still seems like it wasn't that long ago that @mrsbozz and I were sitting in the doctor's office and they told me I had testicular cancer. Actually, they never actually said the word until I asked. I think the term they actually used was "Seminoma" which apparently is a type of cancer, but not being a doctor I didn't know that.
You'd think that the initial diagnosis would hit you harder, and perhaps if it was a more serious case that would have been true. It really didn't hit hard until later that night when my nieces called me to see if I was okay. That's when I finally broke down.
The next few days after the diagnosis were a whirlwind as the doctor wanted to get the tumor out as quickly as possible. I think I probably got diagnosed on Tuesday, they performed the "radical orchiectomy" on Friday, and I was back to work on Monday.
Now, here I am eight years later and though I have to visit the doctor once a year just to be sure,
I am still cancer free!
I don't really know what that has to do with the opening photo, but it was a dang good BLT I had last weekend and I wanted to share it with you.
I promised @leaky20 some food photos anyway.

I smoked a rack of baby back ribs last weekend. It took about five hours, but they turned out really nicely. It's too bad that @mrsbozz doesn't really like pork like this, I would have ribs a lot more often if she did. I think I need to start packaging these by the half rack. I ended up only eating a small portion of them and then I vacuum sealed the rest up. Either that or I need to find some more friends who like ribs!

In case you missed it, Uptober is here and the markets are already reacting accordingly. BTC is sitting over $120K and that $124K ATH is right around the corner. Meanwhile, ETH is pushing $4500, and this could be the month that it finally tops $5000 from it's ATH of $4942.
As far as the rest of the altcoins, things are yet to be determined. I'm continuing to make some moves with my HIVE. I hope to have about 20K liquid in case the price happens to move in a positive direction. If not, I will probably just power it all up and keep doing what I do here.
Rising Star
I'm kind of hitting the fatigue wall with all of the clicking in Rising Star game. I thought about liquidating my cards, but I don't think I would really get much for them. There was a time that my legendary pink lambo might have fetched a nice amount, but that isn't the case anymore I don't think. I never got into a lot of the other aspects of the game, but I just don't have the motivation at this point. I know there is a lot more there than just running missions, but at this point I kind of don't care.

Class Action Settlement
Apparently a while ago I signed up for a class action lawsuit against Facebook. It seems there is also something going on against Amazon Prime as well, but I have knowingly and willfully subscribed to Amazon Prime for a couple decades now, so I can't really argue they swindled me into anything.
Facebook on the other hand is another story and this particular lawsuit happened to be called the "Facebook Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation Settlement". I think we can all agree that privacy is important and it's no shocker that big companies like Facebook violate our privacy all the time.
You done got caught Facebook, and as a result, I got a massive payment of $38.36 transfered to my Venmo account.
Time to retire right?!
While $40 might not be much, it puts some gas in my wife's car, so I can't really complain.

Travala
Uptober (October) also means it is the beginning of the fourth quarter, so that means Travala is going to be starting their next round SMART bonus contributor tasks soon. The tasks are pretty simple and mostly involve promoting Travala on social media like X. Given my staking tier, I end up earning about 100 AVA tokens per quarter. It's not worth too much right now, but if the price of AVA gets near it's old ATH, that could be $800 in travel funds.
Not too bad... Only time will tell if that ends up being the case.
Silver and Gold
On the precious metals side of thing, I have been really interested in the posts that @thebighigg has been making lately about shipwrecks off the coast of Florida. I recently saw a story from the end of last month about a company that recently recovered over a million dollars in gold and silver coins from a 1715 shipwreck off the coast of Florida.
The company is called Queens Jewels LLC, and they hold the salvage rights to the Spanish fleet ships that went down in a hurricane. Apparently they have recovered over 1000 silver Reales and five gold Escudos. According to the story, the One Million worth of treasure they recovered is only a fraction of the estimated $400 million worth of riches that were reported to be on the ships.
Anyone wanna fly to Florida?!
That's all I have for you this Friday morning. I hope you enjoyed my thoughts, insights, and random photos!

Thank you!
That must have been so scary 8 years ago, but it's great they dealt with it so quick. You hardly got time to recover from the shock and you're fit as a fiddle again.
Americans are big on class actions, aren't they? Just out of interest how much of the compensation went to the lawyers, they always seems to be the big winners in these court cases whilst they real victims get pittance. Luckily, (I hope) you didn't suffer any actual loss on all this. Great work on taking part in it. FB are terrible in privacy invasion.
Yeah, I am sure the lawyers got a pretty hefty portion of the settlement. They likely did a lot of the grunt work, but I doubt it was proportional. I don't know the exact number though. I think part of the reason they do class actions so much here is because it's easier to take on the large corporations when you have a big group of people versus just one or two. Class actions always seem to be more of a civil thing than a criminal thing too, but I could be wrong. Thank you! I think my wife took it harder back then than I did, but she never really showed it.

I never comment but always read your posts. Just want to say congrats on the 8 years and hope for many more years ahead!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Damn that's awesome you're many years out from that. That shit is scary!
I'm glad they got it sorted out, but one of the things that always irks me is how FAST they make people go. Not that I'm saying you shouldn't have done it fast, but taking a week to process something more before making permanent life decisions is a difficult thing for me. It's not a heart attack, a few extra days to process doesn't make much of a difference overall. It can be traumatic to not be able to process that stuff!
Well to be fair, it had been quite a bit of time that they let it go. The first doctor I went to thought it was just some kind of infection and they put me on antibiotics. After a while my wife was like that's not getting better, you need to go back in. That was when they referred me to a urologist and they finally got everything sorted. So I knew there was something wrong for a while, I just didn't say anything and then when I did they were heading down the wrong path.
Yeah, that's sadly a pretty common story! Especially with men hahaha. We drag things out! Thankfully it's turned out well for you man!
Glad you made it through that health scare relatively unscathed. Fortunately, it was one of the more treatable cancers out there. Still, a very scary thing to have to go through and I'm glad you pulled through!
Those smoked ribs look awesome by the way, I can never turn down some juicy smoked ribs!
That Facebook settlement was big bucks! The only people who ended up making money from that were the lawyers and the primary plaintiff. Mostly the lawyers are the ones laughing all the way to the bank with millions upon millions in their bank accounts. Class action suits really seem to ever benefit them!
I would love to head down for some more treasure hunting. Those beaches and even the mangrove swamps just beyond often have tons of treasure just waiting to be found. The offshore stuff Queens has the rights too but you can subcontract with them and search the sites. There is a lot of unaccounted gold, silver, and gems just sitting on the ocean floor for those willing to take the risk and search. It's not a poor man's game though to sift through tons of sand in thirty feet of water! But people have found gold money chains from the fleet just walking along the beach as well as gold and silver coins, a little luck never hurts!
Luck seems to be the word of the day then. Lucky I had the "good" kind of cancer and lucky that sometimes treasure just washes up at your feet! Like I said yesterday, I never really realized there was still that much stuff just floating around.
Ur making me hear the Goonies soundtrack in my head right now! 😂
8 years is great news, and here is to many many more years in remission. I will be going to Florida next April to see the inlaws again but doubt I will be doing any treasure hunting lol
Thank you! It's a good feeling! I'd probably end up with a gator biting my hand off...
Hehe I did meet one once whilst fishing for my lost golf ball there 🤣
Yikes!
Congratulations on eight years of remission! That had to be super frightening. I got the FB payment too a few weeks ago. I flipped it right into BTC. : ) We were on the higher end of the payout, some people got less than $10.
Thank you! I should have done that but I don't have my Venmo account set up for crypto. Likely my wife is going to need me to send money to someone at some point, so I will probably just leave it there. Oh really? I hadn't heard that about the payment. Yay us!
The cancer thing is really scary no matter what kind it is. Glad you are free of it for years now.
$40 would get you less than half a tank at Costco, as our gas is over $5 a gallon
$3.09 here. I just filled up my father in laws truck yesterday! Thank you!
You will not find $3 gas in Seattle area :)
Prices are higher now, but this was from about three weeks ago:

Admirable... Mis felicitaciones

That's amazing that you are still cancer free. Congratulations!
I started doing the mustard trick on ribs after seeing a previous post of yours. Its a game changer I think. The ribs look delicious 😋
Thanks! Yeah, I'd say it's not something I think about anymore, but that's probably a lie. I have constant and permanent reminders of what I went through. I'm just lucky as some people aren't. I wasn't sure about the mustard either, but you don't really taste it and it helps the rub create a great crust. I didn't get any photos of the inside, but my smoke ring was killer. Took about five hours total.
Yeah that's understandable for sure. Both my parents have/had cancer so I know that it can be a lot to go through.
I know nothing about smoking but I can see the appeal. I could see myself getting into it one day
I love my Weber kettle it is such a versatile BBQ. You can do most anything with it. I'm sorry about your parents.
Cheers 🍻 to being Csncer free! That’s awesome bud!
Thank you!
Wow, 40 bucks is all that privacy is worth? Crazy!
I went through a similar story with your diagnosis, but it was a bone tumor on my ankle. X-rays, MRI, and surgery... all in less than a week from the first visit to the doctor. Glad that it was benign, and no need for kemo!
!PIMP
I'm glad for you as well. You know they had to split the money so many ways. It sounds like I got more than some other folks.
My brother went through the same procedure and aggressive chemotherapy about ten years ago. Supporting him from through chemo was rough - 40 pounds melted off his frame in a little over two months.
He's in remission also and living a healthy active life, glad to hear you bounced back fast.
Thank you! I got lucky and only had to do three weeks of radiation. That really takes it out of you though. Not so much the weight loss, but the fatigue is real when your cells are getting hammered by radiation.
The important thing is that you are healthy and well today, and thank you for sharing various and diverse news that was really very useful.
Thank you, it was my pleasure!
Eight years cancer-free is amazing 👏 really shows how strong you are. Gives me a lot of perspective on not stressing the small stuff
Thank you!
Congrats on your milestone! It's brilliant to hear the survival stories. My dad got prostate cancer and luckily he is cancer free and still with us
That is great news!
I am very, very happy for you that the cancer was operable.
Down a testicle, but operable yes!
As the years pass, we learn to let go of things, even body parts. It's the price of being here :))
The way you've maintained such a positive outlook and continue to share your story with such grace is genuinely inspiring to so many people. I'm deeply moved by your openness about the experience and how you've kept pushing forward.
Thank you! I hope that my ordeal can help other men catch it early.

its a good news that you are cancer free, i still want to congratulate you. cancer is also one of my hate diseases because i lost my mom to it. that's why i want those who are suffering from cancer to fight and recover from this disease.
i like the steak you cooked and also the thing that is green. what insect is that?
I was hoping someone could tell me about the insect it was on our screen one day and I have never seen anything like it before! I'm sorry about your mom. Cancer really does suck!
Hi friend, the photos in your post really caught my attention, and even though I don't speak English, I had to take screenshots to translate them. In the end, I read that they're random photos – I found that very funny and original of you. Another thing is that you mentioned you're still fighting and aren't free from that illness, and let me tell you something: there's a cure that many doctors don't know about, and you know what it is? It's being happy, brother. It's something I could see in your photo – you look happy. Yes, enjoying each day and being happy. Sometimes things happen to us so we realize that not everything in this life is about material things, but about enjoying every second. Sorry for my English, this is translated, but I'm really glad everything turned out well. And that's it, many blessings.
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Eight years cancer free. Truly amazing. Reading your journey really shows how strong you are and it’s inspiring to see you enjoying life fully. Cheers to your health!🤗
