A Work In Progress

It's been a busy weekend to say the least! When I got home on Friday night after doing some family Halloween stuff I was shocked to find that I had been kicked out of the BRO community and pretty much all contact I had with the leader was cut off. I wrote about it in this post, and spent the better part of Friday night and Saturday morning trying to figure out what was going on.

Much to @mrsbozz's chagrin!

I waited for @dbooster to login to Discord from the other side of the world in Japan to see if he had gotten booted as well. Eventually, I made my way to the HIVE Discord and I realized the crap storm was quite a bit more far reaching than I had anticipated. With the community in shambles I was totally at a loss.

I've told other people this and I truly mean it. It wasn't the lost income from the BRO token that I really missed, it was the loss of community. I am not going to rehash it too much, but the place we called home for years was suddenly rugged from us along with our funds. @dbooster and I got talking and we decided to start a new community on Discord where folks that had been exiled from the old BRO community could land.

What it isn't

• The new Discord server isn't a place to bash on Ray. That being said, this is still really raw for a lot of us, so big emotions have been expressed. We are not going to stifle that, but we are not going to encourage it either.

• It's not a takeover of the old community. Yes, we want to see familiar faces, but this is separate and not associated in any way with the old community beyond what I have already explained.

• This is not an attempt to take advantage of anyone or anything. A lot of us had a great fondness for Ray on some level. We truly hope he gets better or gets help or whatever. I think both @dbooster and I would be happy to welcome him into the community if that happened. It would be a rough go for him though. Additionally, if the BRO community were ever to get back to what it used to be, I don't think we would have a problem dissolving this one.

• This community was started with zero plans of releasing a token or tying this to HIVE in any way outside of the fact that many of us have accounts on HIVE. If you think we started this for some kind of financial gain or to take advantage of a horrible situation, you are wrong. That being said, the current members seem excited about the possibility of a PUB token and we are willing to see where the will of the community leads.

What it is

• When BRO was at it's prime, it was a place of laughter, commiseration, brutal honesty, and thoughtful/insightful conversations. Our hope is that this space will become that once again. At least so far, it seems that is the case

• Our community is safe space, but you still might need a thick skin. Folks love to share their opinions, rip on countries and politicians, express their world views, and just like the old man at the bar in the corner pub, we aren't going to keep them from sharing those opinions (within reason).

• It's still a work in progress. Neither of us have run a Discord server before, and we kind of threw this together in a hot second, so have patience and hopefully it will grow into something pretty awesome. Even if it is just a new place for you to hang your hat on Discord.

Rebrand?

It has been brought to our attention that several people have an issue with the name of the server. They feel the BRO name has been tainted by recent events. I can respect that and as a result, @dbooster and I are workshopping new names for the community. We want people to know this is a space for folks who loved (or at least tolerated) the old BRO community.

As I have said, the atmosphere in that community was like friends sitting around a campfire BS'ing with each other or hanging out at the local pub. I thought about something like HIVE Campfire, but we fear the fire theme is tainted as well by the past community.

It appears we are leaning towards something having to do with the pub atmosphere. Sorry @bulliontools, I love Monty Python, but I am not sold on the "Knights of Ni"!

Actually, I have an update and after some good discussion last night....

The PUB

I'm already really impressed by the number of people who have joined the community and the volume of conversation that is taking place there. It's more than we could have hoped for. It already feels like people are starting to make this space their new home. I even see some faces who weren't in BRO or weren't very active and that is exciting as well.

I know there are a lot of Discord servers out there related to HIVE or HIVE communities, and I know you have a lot of options when it comes to where you spend your time, but if you get the chance, feel free to stop into whatever we end up calling this place.

Just remember the most important rule of our community...

Don't be a dick!
