The Shadow of a Coconut Palm Beside the Hotel

Hello dear #ShadowHunters community,

This is my entry for the ShadowHunters SMASh contest number 434.

During my recent stay at a hotel in Varadero, I enjoyed walking through its gardens and outdoor areas. Although most visitors are naturally drawn to the beach and the sea, I also like paying attention to the small details that often go unnoticed around the buildings.

While walking beside one of the accommodation blocks, I noticed a coconut palm growing very close to one of the side walls.

The morning sun was already shining brightly, illuminating the entire area. Instead of looking only at the palm itself, my attention was drawn to the shadow it projected.

Its silhouette extended across both the white wall and the ground at the same time.

I found it interesting how the shadow seemed to connect two different surfaces. Part of the palm appeared to climb the wall, while the rest continued naturally over the pavement, creating the illusion of a single drawing unfolding in two directions.

The long leaves of the coconut palm produced elegant shapes.

Each frond projected thin, well-defined lines that spread like a natural fan. The contrast between the dark shadow and the light-colored wall made every detail stand out even more clearly.

For a few moments, I simply stood there observing the scene.

Sometimes we admire the beauty of palm trees because of their height or the tropical atmosphere they create. But when sunlight reaches them from the right angle, they reveal another kind of beauty through the shadows they leave behind.

The wall became a canvas, and the ground completed the composition.

Together they held a fleeting image that would disappear as the sun continued its journey across the sky.

That is why I decided to photograph it.

Because even during a simple walk around the hotel, light and shadow offered me another quiet reminder that nature is always capable of creating unexpected works of art.

La sombra de un cocotero junto al hotel

Hola querida comunidad de #ShadowHunters,

Esta es mi entrada para el concurso ShadowHunters SMASh número 434.

Durante mi reciente estancia en un hotel de Varadero disfruté recorriendo sus jardines y áreas exteriores. Aunque la mayoría de las personas dirige su atención hacia la playa y el mar, a mí también me gusta observar esos pequeños detalles que muchas veces pasan desapercibidos alrededor de las edificaciones.

Mientras caminaba junto a uno de los bloques de habitaciones, noté un cocotero que crecía muy cerca de una de las paredes laterales.

El sol de la mañana ya iluminaba con fuerza toda la zona. En lugar de fijarme únicamente en la palma, mi atención se dirigió hacia la sombra que proyectaba.

Su silueta se extendía al mismo tiempo sobre la pared blanca y sobre el suelo.

Me pareció interesante cómo la sombra lograba unir dos superficies diferentes. Una parte del cocotero parecía trepar por la pared, mientras la otra continuaba de forma natural sobre el pavimento, formando la ilusión de un mismo dibujo desarrollado en dos direcciones.

Las largas hojas del cocotero creaban formas muy elegantes.

Cada hoja proyectaba líneas finas y bien definidas que se abrían como un gran abanico natural. El contraste entre la sombra oscura y la claridad de la pared hacía que cada detalle resaltara con mucha nitidez.

Me detuve unos instantes para contemplar aquella escena.

Muchas veces admiramos los cocoteros por su altura o por el ambiente tropical que aportan a un lugar. Sin embargo, cuando la luz del sol los alcanza desde el ángulo adecuado, también nos regalan otra forma de belleza a través de las sombras que dejan a su paso.

La pared se convirtió en un lienzo y el suelo completó la composición.

Entre ambos sostenían una imagen efímera que desaparecería a medida que el sol continuara su recorrido por el cielo.

Tal vez por eso decidí fotografiarla.

Porque incluso durante un sencillo paseo por los alrededores del hotel, la luz y la sombra volvieron a recordarme que la naturaleza siempre encuentra una manera inesperada de crear pequeñas obras de arte.
