The Austrian Armed Forces do not have a single functioning transport aircraft to fly out stranded citizens from the Middle East despite billions of military spending each year 🙈
Haltet euch fest, obwohl Österreich seine Militärausgaben die letzten Jahre dramatisch erhöht hat und mittlerweile über 5 Milliarden Euro jedes Jahr für Verteidigung ausgibt (und darin sind die Ausgaben für Sky Shield etc. noch gar nicht enthalten, "Sonderbudget"), hat das österreichische Bundesheer derzeit keine einzig funktionierende Transportmaschine, um ein paar Hundert gestrandete Österreicher aus dem Nahen Osten auszufliegen.
Das Bundesheer verfügt aktuell über drei Hercules C-130 Maschinen, von denen allerdings keine einzige einsatzfähig ist und auch nicht kurzfristig einsatzfähig gemacht werden kann.
2024 hat das Bundesheer 4 neue Transportflugzeuge des Typs Embraer C-390 bestellt. Beschaffungsprozesse im Bundesheer sind allerdings langwierig und können oft mehrere Jahre oder sager Jahrzehnte dauern.
Das Bundesheer verfügt aktuell trotz Milliardenausgaben nicht über die Fähigkeit Personen, Mannschaft oder Gerät über längere Distanzen in der Luft zu transportieren.
Das bedeutet, dass auch Gefährder und Terroristen derzeit nicht effizient aus Österreich abgeschoben werden können, sondern wenn so eine Abschiebung erfolgt, ist das eher nur für PR-Zwecke und eine Einzel-Aktion.
Wahrscheinlich müssten wir dafür noch mehr Milliarden pro Jahr ausgeben, damit wir wenigsten eine funktionierende Transport-Maschine erhalten können.
Verteidigung ist leider extrem teuer und ineffizient.

Hold on tight, this is insane, although Austria has dramatically increased its military spending in recent years and now spends over €5 billion annually on defense (and that doesn't even include spending on Sky Shield etc.), the Austrian Armed Forces currently do not have a single functioning transport aircraft to fly a few hundred stranded Austrians out of the Middle East.
The Austrian Armed Forces currently have three Hercules C-130 aircraft, none of which are operational and none of which can be made operational at short notice.
In 2024, the Austrian Armed Forces ordered four new Embraer C-390 transport aircraft. However, procurement processes in the Austrian Armed Forces are lengthy and can often take several years or even decades.
Despite spending billions, the Austrian Armed Forces currently do not have the capability to transport people, equipment and hardware over long distances by air.
This means that dangerous aliens and terrorists cannot currently be efficiently deported from Austria too. When such deportations do occur, they are more for PR purposes and are isolated incidents.
We would probably have to spend even more billions per year to obtain at least one functioning transport aircraft.
Unfortunately, defense is super expensive and inefficient.

Shows that all that military expenses are to enrich a few
Defense spending increases don’t automatically translate into immediate capability. A large portion can go toward personnel, modernization programs, infrastructure, and long-term contracts rather than instantly deployable assets.
Ja, hab ich mitbekommen. So etwas ist peinlich, aber auch gar nicht anders zu erwarten. Hauptsache wir haben Eurofighter mit Münzschlitz.
The important thing is not what you spend, but what you spend it on. Perhaps 99% of that defense budget was spent on drafting the defense budget.
Es ist nur mehr lächerlich was sich in unserem Staat tagtäglich abspielt, wobei einem das lachen schon lange vergangen ist wenn man sich ansieht was dieser Operettenhofstaat an Geld verschlingt, bzw. es in irgendwelche dunklen Kanäle fließt.
Was für eine Schande. Aber Hauptsache, die Sozialleistungen für das Migrantenheer fließen ungebremst. Man muss eben Prioritäten setzen.

The Czech Republic sent three military transport planes for its citizens. I'm not saying that's a lot. Most of our citizens are being evacuated with the help of travel agencies.
There is no direct correlation between military spending and the performance of the army in the sense that the higher the expenditure, the better the army. Some expenditures are completely nonsensical.
It's expensive, but it's a necessary cost. I have a feeling that they need to change that because they never know when those things will be necessary.

Wir haben 15 Eurofighter, aber diese sind blöderweise veraltet, da es früher Diskussionen darüber gab, ob wir überhaupt welche brauchen, und die SPÖ hat daraufhin alte bestellt, die weder nacht- noch kampftauglich waren.
