শ্রাবণের নিশি / A Monsoon Night

It is the month of Monsoon, so this poem I wrote about the night of Monsoon.

শ্রাবণের নিশি

একদা জেগেছিনু শ্রাবণের নিশি
দখিনা দুয়ার খুলি রয়েছিনু বসি।
রাশি রাশি রুপালি তারার ভিড়ে
বাঁকা চাঁদের হাসি দৃষ্টি কাড়ে।

নিবিড় প্রকৃতি নেই কলরব
অনড় নিশ্চল তরুপল্লব।
নীরব নিশুতি ক্ষণ, নির্ঘুম আঁখি
কদাচিৎ ডানা মেলে রাতের পাখি।

মেঘের দেখা নেই তপ্ত ধরা
পবন প্রবাহের পাই না সাড়া।
ঘর্মসিক্ত তনু, নিদারুণ ক্লেশে
নিশিপ্রহর যায় মেঘের আশে।

বর্ষিলে এইক্ষণ শ্রাবণের ধারা
স্নিগ্ধ পরশ পেত ধূলির ধরা।
প্রশান্তি আনিত তপ্ত দেহে
শয্যা শয়নে যেতাম গৃহে।

সাতসতেরো ভেবে ফুরায় লগন
সহসাই সাড়া দেয় আশার পবন।
বৃক্ষ তরুশাখে লাগল দোলা
এবার তবে কি মেঘের পালা?

হেনকালে ফিরে চাহি গগনপানে
লুকোচুরি খেলে চাঁদ মেঘের সনে।
ঢেকে যায় মিটিমিটি তারার মিছিল
বর্ষণে মুখরিত হলো নিখিল।

English Version:

A Monsoon Night

Once I stayed awake on a monsoon night, Sitting by the open southern door.Amidst the heaps of silver stars, The curved moon's smile caught my sight.

Nature is dense, free of any noise,
The leaves and trees stand still and frozen.A silent, deep midnight hour, sleepless eyes, Rarely does a night bird spread its wings.

No sign of clouds, the earth is scorched, I feel no response from the blowing wind.A sweat-drenched body, in immense distress, The watches of the night pass in anticipation of clouds.

If the showers of monsoon poured down now, The dusty earth would feel a soothing touch.It would bring peace to this burning body, And I would go home to rest in my bed.

Thinking of a thousand things, the hour slips away, Suddenly, the wind of hope responds.A sway ripples through the branches of the trees, Is it, then, finally the turn of the clouds?

At that very moment, looking back up at the sky, The moon plays hide-and-seek with the clouds.The procession of twinkling stars fades away, And the entire world resonates with the sound of rain.
