Instagram has a new logo but it is not visible any more in the app

CNET: Instagram has a new logo for some reason

English

Instagram has a new logo, but it’s no longer visible in the app or on the website. Instead of the iconic lettering, Meta is now increasingly using the app icon, a stylized camera, as its logo.

But the app icon itself was also simplified a few years ago.

A common reason often cited for why companies simplify their logos is that Gen Z can no longer read cursive as well.

But the fact that logos from major companies are becoming increasingly simplified is a general design trend that also affects many big tech companies like Microsoft and Google.

What do you think of the new logo? Have you even seen it anywhere yet, or has Meta already removed the lettering entirely?

First time I'm seeing it - though I doubt the cursive explanation. I mean, it's true enough if you give them a handwritten letter, but I don't think anyone was genuinely having a problem identifying Instagram. Strange that they hid it.

I can see it in the app when I open it. I first noticed it yesterday evening. I'm not a fan of the new writing style but seeing the two versions next to each other I am noticing that the new style is easier to read at a glance, especially when your eyes are darting all over the place. I think its more because the letters are larger and less compact than the fact that its cursive. If i had to guess the reason I'd say that its probably less about Gen Z and more about it being an English word on a global brand. Large block letters are easier to read and recognize when English is not your main language. Thats my guess anyway. I feel like the scape goat nowadays is always gen z or boomers though lol

So my meaningless analysis is that its easier to read but more boring looking. Lol

Honestly, I haven’t noticed the new logo much myself yet; maybe Meta really has phased out the old script quietly.

I prefer the old one, but it's sad to see how people can't read cursive anymore
