An Honest Opinion on Audiobooks

Hello great friends of Hive, hope you all had fun filled moments this weekend.

So in my post today, I would be giving an honest opinion on one of the weekend engagement topics: “Would you rather read a book or listen to one as an audio book and why? Bonus points for telling us about what type of books you like to read or listen to and why.”

Well I would say that reading a physical book and listening to an audio book all have their special advantages. If I were to be asked this same question some years back, I would choose physical reading to audio books with lots of reasons, I had a lot of time then compared to now.

But currently, I would definitely prefer an audio book, yeah! I would, with some good reasons too but that doesn’t mean I can’t read a book physically if I have the luxury of time to. I mean, I have a lot of physical books in my library, I promised to read all of them last year but guess what? I never did, I read just a few but listening to audio books, I was able to get the details of what each book has to offer.

Most times I pick a book, I would really love to sit and read them but I realized that I barely have that time to sit for long hours reading a particular book, but an audio book is very convenient for me now. So whenever I have a book to read, I would not have to give an excuse of not having time to read it, rather I would play it as an audio book while I am washing, cleaning, eating, cooking, While stuck in traffic. While lying in bed too tired to keep my eyes open, I would just listen and that’s very okay for me.

Time management is something I sincerely do not joke with, so if I know I won’t have time to read the books, I would listen to it while I am doing other stuffs, I also understand that multitasking might be a challenge for some people, I had that same challenge initially but with time, I became used to it.

Aside the time factor, whenever I listen to audio books I tend to grab the gist better, it makes me feel as though someone is speaking directly to me and it has helped me a lot, what you spend your time listening to has a way of getting permanently deposited in your memory.

One thing I’ve also noticed about myself is that I am more consistent with audiobooks than physical books. Whenever I read, I sometimes struggle to sit for long hours to finish a chapter, over time my energy drops and it feels tiring but with audiobooks I would listen to it without getting that tiring feeling.

Let me share a little how I started getting used to audio books. Normally I usually read my bible every day especially in the morning but most times I wake up very late and I would have to rush and prepare for lectures. So this happen a lot of times and I kept missing my bible reading time, it was later I realized that I could listen to an audio bible anywhere and anytime, even while traveling or doing some chores.

These has also made me listen to lots of podcasts and I tend to learn a lot. If I were to read them, I am not sure I would have made it that far.

Actually, the books I love listening to are self-development books, leadership and psychology books and there all worth listening to.
