You had no tools with you? At least the blockage could have been removed to transport the bike easier. Your next bike should be a "Waffenfahrrad" - you can take it apart and put it together with ease. When I was a kid, I rode my dad's WWII model and learned how to take it apart and put back together again. Never any problems. Checking and adjusting your brakes periodically is a must. You don't need a mechanic for that.

Unfortunately had no tools with me and the damage was bigger than expected, the metal rim started to break and was torn apart blocking the entire wheel. Have never had that problem and realized the full extent only when I dragged the bike already in the subway. Initially thought that the axis is causing the problem. Lesson learned, should have replaced both wheels/rims or even the bike before it broke down. Huge safety risk.
