Rear wheel got stuck on my mechanical bike

Hatte wieder eine Fahrrad-Panne, aber diesmal nicht bei meinem E-Bike, sondern bei meinem mechanischen KTM-Fahrrad, das Hinterrad blockierte, weil eine Bremsbacke anscheinend die Felge aufgeschlitzt hat. War unangenehm, aber zum Glück ist nichts passiert, da dieser Schaden nicht bei Full-Speed eingetreten ist und ich das Fahrrad trotz blockierten Reifen unter Kontrolle bekommen habe.

Aber ist trotzdem ärgerlich, musste das Fahrrad quer durch die Stadt schleifen und auch die Reparatur ist eher kostspielig, zu überlegen, ob ich mir bei der Gelegenheit nicht gleich ein neues Fahrrad kaufen soll.

Fahrrad ist ungefähr 10 Jahre alt, hat auch noch andere Probleme mit der Gangschaltung und mit der Federung vorne.

Was meint ihr? Würdet ihr gleich in ein neues Fahrrad investieren, oder das alte reparieren lassen?

I had another bike breakdown, but this time it wasn’t my e-bike, it was my mechanical KTM bike. The rear wheel locked up because a brake pad apparently gouged the rim. It was unpleasant, but luckily nothing happened since the damage didn’t occur at full speed and I managed to regain control of the bike despite the locked tire.

Still, it’s annoying, I had to drag the bike all the way across the city, and the repair is pretty expensive, so I’m thinking about whether I should just buy a new bike while I’m at it.

The bike is about 10 years old and has other issues with the gears and the front suspension as well.

What do you think? Would you invest in a new bike right away, or have the old one repaired?

I think it would be a good investment to buy a new bike since that one is about 10 years already

Wie teuer wäre es denn?
Ist echt Schade das sich oft Reparaturen kaum lohnen, vorallem wenn man nicht selber Handanlegen kann.

Ich habe bei vielem Glück, das ich in der Familie handwerklich begabte habe.

Muss nächste Woche ein Angebot einholen, aber befürchte, dass alleine ein neues Hinterrad plus Reifen + Einbau so 200 Euro kosten wird, vordere Felge könnte auch bald draufgehen, fahre sehr viel und daher wäre ein neues Bike vlt nicht schlecht, aber wäre natürlich auch teuer und hab mich an das Alte gewöhnt. Aber auch Gangschaltung macht trotz Service immer Probleme und auch die Federgabel vorne federt nicht mehr richtig. Wenn man das alles auswechseln lässt, wird das richtig teuer.

My opinion for this is that you can spend on repairing the old one if you have a great sentimental value for the bike

I think it would make sense to replace the bike if it's been 10 years.

You had no tools with you? At least the blockage could have been removed to transport the bike easier. Your next bike should be a "Waffenfahrrad" - you can take it apart and put it together with ease. When I was a kid, I rode my dad's WWII model and learned how to take it apart and put back together again. Never any problems. Checking and adjusting your brakes periodically is a must. You don't need a mechanic for that.

Unfortunately had no tools with me and the damage was bigger than expected, the metal rim started to break and was torn apart blocking the entire wheel. Have never had that problem and realized the full extent only when I dragged the bike already in the subway. Initially thought that the axis is causing the problem. Lesson learned, should have replaced both wheels/rims or even the bike before it broke down. Huge safety risk.

Given the age, multiple issues, and safety concerns, it’s more practical to invest in a new bike rather than sink money into repairs. You’ll get reliability, better performance, and peace of mind. If you still love the KTM, you could repair it minimally and keep it as a backup or leisure bike.
