Watermelon Plant is Starting to Go Wild
So, I completely underestimated how big this watermelon plant was going to get. This is my first experience growing them other than in my grandfather's garden back when I was a kid, and forgot just how big these things get. But as with everything this year, it's all a learning experience. But, at least it is starting to really produce!
The first melon that started to pop out is getting fairly close to being ready but still needs some more time. But what I have started to notice is that I have a few others starting to grow! One I found growing in between by big hog wire and the little chicken wire and it broke off the vine trying to save it, so tossed it into the compost.
I started digging around in the vines and found a couple of more young melons getting going! My buddy said after the first one starts going, then I will start seeing several popping up, and he wasn't wrong!
I can't wait till these things are ripe enough to crack open and eat! I can eat my weight in watermelon, haha. As I started searching for more little buds I ended up running across a cute little green frog bouncing around the vines.
I don't mind these guys because they eat the bugs, so I say eat away friend! He sat there and chilled for a minute in enough time for me to get my phone out and casually take this picture. We had a little bit of a nature connecting moment, then he went on about his merry little way.
Once he bounced away, I looked under the leaf he was chilling on and found another little melon bud forming! This got me looking some more and I kept finding these little guys, so I will hopefully be seeing a few more melons pop up soon!
I was told I could expect around 10-13 melons with this one plant, so we will see. I only got 7 from my cantaloupe plant, which is done producing and is dying out at this point. I only got 5 of the 7 melons because raccoons ended up getting to the other 2 that I found in the yard half eaten... They are cute, but still pesky critters that I don't want around my gardens! Little trash pandas...
But what I am learning is what is working and what is not, so that next year's garden is going to produce like a mad man! I am already looking forward to clearing out during the winter and setting up for next year! Needless to say, things will be getting shifted around and the watermelon plant will be getting much more room to grow, haha.
Until next time...
Keep being ungovernable, grow fresh food, and just enjoy your life!

That’s awesome to see! Your watermelon plant looks so healthy and full of energy—can’t wait to see those juicy fruits soon! 🍉🌿🌞
If they are going to be anything as tasty as the cantaloupe, I am super excited!
Watermelons are great, though I've not eaten melon for a very long time.
I think Marrow plants are really good they are another plant that can yield really big crops. There a lot you can make with marrow, used to live off the stuff few years back as a relatives garden was producing so much they had to give loads away to just about anyone who would take it. :D

I had to look up marrow plants, lol. Yeah, I have zucchini going and I can't keep up. On top of that, I ended up with a crap ton of yellow squash from my uncle's garden that I tended for a week and got to keep everything that I harvested.
