Crypto Isn’t Perfect, But Neither Are We! Crypto Tribalism Needs To End

I’ve been around long enough now to know that nothing created by humans is ever going to be perfect, and that includes every single cryptocurrency out there. All of them, from Bitcoin to the latest “next-gen” chain, every one has problems that need to be addressed. But instead of working on real solutions, the space has turned into a never-ending fight over whose coin is better instead of trying to actually make them better.

Mix in the pump-and-dump garbage tokens and the loudest people in the room being the least helpful, and it's easy to see why folks are burning out. Meanwhile, the real enemies, the central banks, governments, and Wall Street are moving in like it was their plan all along, and people are actually cheering for it. It’s frustrating beyond words, and honestly, it’s getting harder to stay mentally balanced in a space that feels like it’s lost the plot.

Nothing in Crypto Is Without Fault

Let’s just start by saying it straight up, there is no such thing as a perfect blockchain. Bitcoin has scalability issues, mining centralization, and a development process that moves like molasses. Ethereum’s constantly changing, and with every upgrade, it seems like they trade one problem for another. Newer chains may brag about speed and low fees, but they often sacrifice decentralization or fall apart when things get busy.

None of this should be shocking. We’re still in the early phases of building an entirely new financial and technological infrastructure. There are going to be problems. The issue isn’t that these platforms have problems, the issue is how the communities respond when those problems are pointed out. People get defensive, aggressive even, like admitting a flaw somehow weakens the entire project. In reality, recognizing weaknesses is how you strengthen a system. But we’re not allowed to talk about those things anymore without catching flak from the developers that don't know how to take feedback without crying, or the community that just wants to push their own agendas on everyone.

The Tribalism Is a Serious Problem

Crypto used to be about innovation and freedom. It was about creating an alternative system outside of centralized control. Now it feels like high school, where everyone’s in a clique defending their chain of choice like it’s their favorite sportsball team. If you say something even slightly critical about a project, even if it’s constructive, people act like you just insulted their family or kicked their dog.

This blind loyalty isn’t helping anyone. It’s pushing away people who could actually be part of making things better. Developers, investors, critical thinkers, etc, don’t want to walk into a room full of people screaming at each other over block size, gas fees, or validator counts. It’s draining. I’ve seen really talented people just walk away from the space because they’re tired of all the drama. That’s not how we grow, this is how it all fails.

The Scam Culture Is Out of Control

And if the tribal wars weren’t enough, we’ve got the never-ending parade of memecoins and outright scams flooding the ecosystem. Every week, there’s some new token that exists for no reason other than to take advantage of people’s greed. No tech, no real use case, just hype, memes, and a roadmap written on a napkin, or hell, not even that organized.

And people fall for it over and over again. It’s wild to watch. These scams suck in new people who end up getting burned, and then they leave thinking the entire crypto space is a joke. Meanwhile, the people behind these coins rinse and repeat with a new name and a new logo.

The sad part is, these tokens take attention away from the real projects trying to solve actual problems. There are teams out there doing good work, but they can’t get a word in over the noise. And the louder this gets, the easier it is for regulators to justify cracking down on the whole industry. It’s not just about money. This stuff is poisoning the reputation of the entire ecosystem.

Being Critical Is Good, But Don’t Be a Jerk

Look, I know I can be a seriously critical guy. If something’s broken, I’m going to call it out. I don’t sugarcoat things. But there’s a huge difference between being critical and just being nasty. I’ve seen too many people who spend all their time complaining, but they don’t build anything, they don’t educate anyone, and they sure don’t help. They just sit behind a screen, stir up drama, and act like their hot take is doing the world a favor.

Constructive criticism is extremely valuable though. It’s necessary to improve. But personal attacks, constant negativity, and bad-faith arguments don’t help move anything forward. If your only contribution is snark and sarcasm, which I know I can be guilty of at times, you’re not helping the cause. You’re part of the noise that’s holding the space back. If you are going to be a bit snarky, at least have some positive solutions to bring to the table.

We’ve Lost Sight of the Real Enemy

While we’re all busy arguing about which chain has the best TPS, most decentrailzed, etc, the real monsters are moving in quietly and setting up shop. Central banks are laying the groundwork for government-issued digital currencies, or just a takeover of Bitcoin and stablecoins. Governments are trying to regulate self-custody out of existence. Wall Street is buying up Bitcoin and Ethereum, wrapping them in products that keep regular people locked out of real ownership.

And what’s wild is that people are cheering for it. They see things like ETFs and big institutional partnerships as signs that crypto is “making it.” But all that’s really happening is the system we tried to escape is being rebuilt on blockchain rails. The suits are winning because people stopped paying attention. We didn’t build all this so a bunch of banks could slap their logos on it and call it a day. But that is what is happening.

It’s Mentally Exhausting to Be Here Sometimes

Trying to stay focused and positive in crypto right now feels like a full-time job in itself. Between the scams, the tribalism, the bots spamming every social feed, including Hive, and the constant pressure from regulators, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. It wears on you. I’ve had days where I wonder if it’s even worth sticking around.

But I do, because I still believe in the original vision. I still believe in what this space could be. I’ve met some amazing people here. I’ve seen brilliant ideas, powerful tech, and a real grassroots movements trying to build something different. That’s what keeps me going. But I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t getting harder every day.

We Need a Cultural Reset

Technology will keep evolving. That’s a given. But the culture around it needs a serious reset. We need to bring back the spirit of collaboration and open discussion. We need to stop acting like blockchains are football teams. We need more people helping, building, and teaching, and fewer people just shouting into the void.

The potential of crypto is still there. The tools are still here. But we have to get out of our own way. If we want to build a better system, it has to start with better behavior. We need to lift up the projects that are doing the work, challenge them constructively, and stop worshipping false idols just because they had a good pump last month.

There’s Still Time to Get This Right

It’s not too late. Not even close. We can still course correct, but only if more people start acting like adults in the room and not little children that need a juice box and a nap. That means being honest about what’s broken, not getting butt hurt over some feedback, supporting the people trying to fix it, and remembering who the real opponents are. It’s not the devs building a new chain or the users staking on another platform. It’s the ones who want to control everything and they’re counting on us being too distracted to stop them. Let’s not hand them the keys to our little encrypted kingdom!

Until next time...

Be cool, be real, and always abide with you my dudes!
