Greetings to the amazing people of hive and community ๐.

Its quite discouraging in this recent times how the younger generation are drifting away slowly from furthering their studies after finishing up high school which is popularly known in my country as secondary school. Many of this younger ones are not feeling motivated to go to college which will enable them acquire higher education degrees for a better higher paying jobs due to how they see many of their peers who spent many years in the university but up until now has no jobs. And many who do have, are living from hand to mouth.
Certificates obtained from universities or Polytechnics as proofs and symbols that one has graduated from a higher education use to be like gold to parents once any of their children finishes university because they believe that their labor of sending them to school will start paying off immediately they start working, but reverse ๐ is the case as many finishes school and continue to seat at home while their parents continue to still carter for them.
This very situation has made many see education as a time wasting investment that brings no hope, instead hopelessness, confusion, tiredness and lack of motivation since many who even finished universities has for one day not practiced with their certificates. They leave it in one of shelves at home, look for odd jobs to do to keep up, while others go into vocational or practical jobs to make ends meet. I do not know how this very situation is in other countries, but here in my country Nigeria ๐ณ๐ฌ, this is how it is in this recent tines.
But despite what is currently happening, I donโt think there is anything that can be compared to being educated because I personally see education and the four walls of the university as what has helped me today to be where I am. Being educated gave me the opportunity to relate with people, to construct, speak and write โ๏ธ, the exposures I need to carry on with life, how to express myself in public . Most of all, why as a human I should live with principles and be disciplined at the same time.
I once came across and learned of a popular saying by one time President of Nigeria ๐ณ๐ฌ, โThat if you think education is expensive, try ignoranceโ. I think this saying arose when people started complaining of education in Nigeria becoming expensive since they feel the government should consider free education to students at some certain levels since the government does not pay any money to its citizen students like in other countries . But the case here is not education being expensive. The issue is why not create more jobs in the economy to help those whose parents has spent and trained to the university level, hoping they finish and start working and earning.
However, its not just going to the university to study ๐, but how Nigeria ๐ณ๐ฌ Education System is not well organized. How can one be forced to study and major in a course you never want to study all because you did not meet up the decided mark? Many go into other departments courses due to one problem or the other and as pressure mounts , years going. So its not that easy again in the system especially if you donโt have parents that will send you to a โPrivate Universityโ. And no job when you finishes since your parents has no connection in the society with all the money they have spent especially on those exceptional courses like engineering, medicine,
I see education and going to university as the most important investment and achievement parents can give to their children because itโs something very worthy but the economy is turning everything up side down. Education is no longer enough as a means to living life.
In the past week I can say I have applied the things I learned in school because as one who deals with the public in the area of my work as a Realtor, I have been able to coordinate most of appointments and schedules, meeting up with clients for inspections which is one area of Business Administration I studied in the University.
Does education still worth it in this 2025, of course. Education is we all should see as ever green because its not just the Certificate as a graduate ๐ฉโ๐, but the knowledge and all the learning we acquire through the years. Its okay for many to learn vocational jobs, technicals and practicals, but they certainly will miss something from that four walls experiences. I encourage as many that will want to go through this experience.
