The sun slipped behind the horizon, and the air finally began to cool.

“You tired, mate?” the tall guy asked, catching his breath.

“No—” I tried, then dropped onto the grass, lungs burning.

“…yeah.”

I leaned back against the tree, staring at the fading light between the branches.

“Not so hot now, eh?”

“Yeah.”

The sky dimmed.

“Feels like winter’s coming.”
