I think they always wanted to be independent and so the US made it happen, whereas Guam, American Samoa, Puerto Rico all chose to stay territories. They get all the federal benefits and don't have to pay US taxes!

I’m supposed to be retired, the Mrs. started working a few more hours per week, and now they jacked our property taxes back up!😳
Even when you have your property paid off, you pay, and pay!!!

Sad part about home ownership is you don't really ever own it, you're really just renting it from the government!

When I was younger, I always wanted a very large house, now I just want something nice but small that they can’t tax a lot!
Many people, my kids age don’t even want to buy homes anymore…….
I still like the freedom to be able to put in a garden, paint my house any color I want, and crank my music up if I feel like it Lol!😇
