Beautiful Silver From The Philippines!

Today is going to be a fun day. Why you may ask? I have a doctor's appointment which is always a lot fun... Not! Hopefully they won't be behind schedule, I hate sitting in waiting rooms for hours on end!

Today I wasn't entirely sure what I was going to share, I had dug some older coins out to see if anything caught my fancy. Most of my coins are in secure storage as I don't keep many around the house. For some reason this one called out to me, so today we are taking a trip back to 1907 to the Philippines.

The Philippines were a Spanish territory until the Spanish-American War of 1898. After that it become a United States territory. They would remain under control of the US until 1946 when they became an independent nation. What makes this coin so interesting is that it is a coin form the Philippines, but minted in the US Mint in Philadelphia. And on the reverse (back) of the coin you can see that it it actually an American coin! Have a look:

About the coin:

From numista.com

I'm a sucker for old coins, especially if they are silver or gold. This coin may not be shiny and pretty, but it is 118 years old. Just imagine how many people have used this coin over the years, it would be fascinating to know what it was used for over the years and who owned it. It is only 75% silver which is interesting, most US produced coins from that era were 90% silver. But it is still silver which is the most important thing, and silver is getting more expensive month by month!

That will do it for today's post, I have to head out to the doctor's office shortly. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below. I want to send out my gratitude to all of you who have supported me over the two and a half years since I started posting here on Hive, it is deeply appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

Best of luck to you at the doctor. I used to have a doctor where you had to wait forever to get in. My new doctor they are usually calling me back before I can sit down from walking over from the reception counter.

Thanks! Ended up in the Emergency instead, my heart rate shot up. Turned out OK, they're just trying to figure out why it's doing that sporadically!

Ah the same issue with doctor appointment. I really though that this is the kind of issue that we have here, waiting for hours to see a doctor.

I also never know that Philipines is under Aamerican control before they got their independece, I thought they got it from Spain. very interesting history and the coin my friend.

Hope your doctors visit goes well my friend!😀
Interesting times when the Philippines was a territory, who knew they could've been the 51st State!!😇😀

I think they always wanted to be independent and so the US made it happen, whereas Guam, American Samoa, Puerto Rico all chose to stay territories. They get all the federal benefits and don't have to pay US taxes!

Taxes……… 🙄
That sounds pretty good right about now!😇
I’m supposed to be retired, the Mrs. started working a few more hours per week, and now they jacked our property taxes back up!😳
Even when you have your property paid off, you pay, and pay!!!
Had to rant a bit Lol!😇

Sad part about home ownership is you don't really ever own it, you're really just renting it from the government!

So very true my friend!🙄
When I was younger, I always wanted a very large house, now I just want something nice but small that they can’t tax a lot!
Many people, my kids age don’t even want to buy homes anymore…….
I still like the freedom to be able to put in a garden, paint my house any color I want, and crank my music up if I feel like it Lol!😇

I do have a Filipino sister in-law that gifted me a handful of coins and notes of small value because she knew I enjoyed collecting coins from all over silver or not.

She never seen real silver coinage from her country of origin, I have a few to show and feel what real money felt like. Last Christmas I pulled out my gift chest, I said, "Pick one." She chose a silver Krugerrand.

My relatives will be Stackers whether they realize it or not.

Most of the silver coins from the Philippines has long been collected out of circulation, just like here and in Canada. It's great that she has some South African silver now, maybe it will put her on the path to collect more!

My doctor's appointment are not always as pleasant, my blood pressure is always raised whenever I get there, and all the anxieties of how the test results will turn out usually gets to me. How did it eventually go?

Didn't make it, my heart rate jumped up so ended up in the Emergency Room instead. I used to get anxiety about blood pressure at the doctor's office as well, but over the last few years I've gotten over it. I also check mine at home when there is no anxiety!

You mentioned the heart rate last time as well, is it the COVID? Take care of yourself, it's so expensive being in the ER.

Hah that is interesting, did not know they had their coins made in the US.

Back in the day a lot of counties couldn't afford their own mints, so they would have the US or the UK produce their coins!
