“Older Than Dirt!”😇 My Actifit Report Card: September 1 2026

“Older Than Dirt Lol!”🤣
I pass this majestic Western Red Cedar tree regularly on my hikes up Sumas Mountain!😊
We call its location on the Mountain side “The First Stop”!😇
After a strenuous uphill climb, we usually stop under the shade of this old tree to catch our breath!😊
“GROK how old would you estimate this Cedar tree to be?”

“Silvertop…… just a rough estimate, without physically measuring the circumference, but I would place its age at well over 500 years old!”

That would mean that this tree was a seedling in approximately 1526 AD😮
“Liz… obviously we are not the first to hike past this old tree!”😇
“Lions, Tigers, and Bears, have walked past this historic tree!”…………
Well maybe only Bears Lol, with the occasional Cougar!😺
Very close to this spot, just uphill a few hundred feet, Silvertop stopped in his tracks on one particular hike!
Silvertop locked eyes with a mature Black Bear!😳
I watched him……. and he was DEFINITELY watching me!🐻
This time of year they are putting on weight for Winter, and the last thing Silvertop wanted to do was interrupt his dinner……………
Or Become his dinner!😬
“Liz we have plenty of other trails to hike, let’s just slowly back down this trail, and let Mr Bear hike by himself today Lol!😇
We ran into Keith our neighbor back at the Trailhead downhill……….
He was adjusting his new Solar powered “Game Camera”!
“Have you seen anything lately Silvertop!”
“Very good timing with the Game Camera Keith, there’s a BIG Bear coming downhill headed this way!”
No worries Silvertop, we only have Black Bears up here, they usually aren’t aggressive!”
“GROK, how much do mature black bears weigh?”

“Silvertop, you don’t want to get too close to a male black bear, or for that matter any black bear! They can weigh anywhere between 125 pounds to 550 pounds, with some males well over 550 pounds!”

“Catch you later Keith, I think we are hiking a different trail for today Lol!”😇
Be safe out there my friends, till tomorrow Silvertop Mike😊

That Western Red Cedar tree must have witnessed many events... I can't imagine 500 years! Lions, Tigers, and Bears... and perhaps native Americans.
But your forest is untouched.
