When we think about intelligence, we automatically associate it with the head, there is the brain, the center of everything, but for machines that logic does not have to exist and a new robot is demonstrating exactly this, because researchers presented a humanoid with a completely different architecture, in this case, the head is not the control center, it works only as a set of sensors, the real brain of the machine is in the chest.

And this may seem strange at first glance, but there is a very simple reason, in the human body, nerve signals are relatively slow, they travel at about 120 m per second, so it makes sense for the brain to be close to the main senses to reduce the response time, but in a robot electronic signals move almost at the speed of light, which means that that limitation simply does not exist and that allows complete freedom of design.

The head can be dedicated only to perception, while processing is focused elsewhere. The main structure of the robot can house a more robust computing system with better protection and greater heat dissipation capacity, meanwhile, the head becomes a specialized module equipped with motion sensors, cameras and systems responsible for orienting the machine in space.

Even with this technological freedom, the engineers inspired by biology, the head is still positioned at the highest point of the body, following an evolutionary principle known as cephalization. That is, concentrating the sensors on one limb to improve the perception of the environment, with multiple cameras, the robot manages to have an almost complete vision of its surroundings, as if it were constantly attentive to everything.

This robot is not trying to copy the human body, it is reinterpreting it, keeping what makes sense and discarding what is not necessary and that can be a clear sign of where robotics is going, less imitation and more efficiency, because when machines stop copying us and start reinventing themselves, they stop being imperfect versions of the human being and become something completely new.
