Chasing the Ball .:. Late Night Blogging

Even if you don't like soccer, you probably know that the FIFA World Cup is happening right now, hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico... I will not go too much into politics, marketing tricks, and very expensive tickets, but rather peek into my personal view and thoughts I had during one specific game... England was playing against Croatia, and I was following the match on Spanish national television...

IMO, that was the first match (that I watched) where both teams were playing on a similar level, and anything could pass on the field... Specifically, the first half was equalized... While Spanish TV commentators try to be objective, or unbiased, they were changing their opinion about teams whenever one would score a goal... 😃 It was funny to see that as teams took turns scoring goals... So, you could hear that the England team is superior, playing great football, and then after just a few minutes, when Croatia would score a goal, they would miraculously become the "better" team... 😃 It reminded me a lot about our "crypto experts," which would FOMO and push one narative today, and tomorrow, it would become irrelevant as some other shiny object will take the focus...

Comparing this match with previous matches, it was so obvious why we saw so many goals from both sides... Both teams would take a lead and actively build up their attacks, trying to score goals... And the second thing was "chasing the ball"... Most goals are scored not by chasing the ball, but trying to figure out where the ball WILL BE and not where it is at the moment...

Another great analogy with our crypto world... Whenever you hear about some crypto or token buzzing at X, or any other platform, you are already late... You are chasing the ball, which you usually will not catch! The real challenge, and the real opportunities, lie in observing the game and watching players who are "delivering" the ball to the scorer! In a way, the saying "eyes on the ball" doesn't make sense a lot, as the ball is faster than us!

The ball is usually delivered in the space, and the player who reaches it first is in "the control", or attacker scoring, or defender clearing out the dangerous situation...

Keep your eyes open on teams that are building... If the product has value but it doesn't get recognized in the over-fomoed-AI world, it doesn't mean it's bad... The time will come for good products to come to the surface... Be patient, make your move, but don't chase the ball... Try to figure out where it will land...

Thank you for your time.

I think it is all about timing and strategy, not just following trends blindly.

It's unfortunate how many people have chased the ball, which hit the bar or missed the goal post. 😂
I'd say FOMO has been the undoing of many crypto peeps. Would they even learn? I don't know.

Well, I was one of them... and to be honest, I still fall into the same trap... lol... Maybe less than before, but I'm not immune to it! 😂

I'm not following it as closely as I did in the past, but occasionally, it's nice to see a good match!

Yeah obviously always good to see a nice match where players play very well

Besides that match, the others have been quite disappointing so far... Also play times are lame for non Americans

Level has lowered quite a lot in general though

Agree... There were no good matches, but that usually happens in the first round... We will see what comes...

Good morning @ph1102. I wanted to let you know that it's been a while since I've listened to the Spanish commentators, even though I still hear them. I remember the match, but not the commentary, but what you're saying doesn't surprise me at all. The comparison with the crypto world is spot on... You only have to see the "experts" on YouTube announcing the death of BTC when it drops one day and then announcing its "resurrection" the next when it rises the following day.

I hope you have a lovely Saturday.

I suppose both sides (football commentators and YT crypto "experts") are talking about what's happening now because it's easier to "sell" it... And doesn't require deeper research to try to see what will come... Where the ball will be...

Have a great Sunday!

Making predictions requires more effort than describing what's happening or explaining the past.

I also wish you a wonderful Sunday.

That is just how things are as people chase the headlines. I do believe that the underlying things are more important in the long run though, so we just need to wait and see what happens. Things continue move even when things are slow.

Things continue move even when things are slow.

Those who "move slow" are probably the most important! Focus on them! 🍻

In football, at the world championships, I like to watch the games the most when the teams I don't support are playing (and since the national team of my country has been destroyed and does not exist on the map of football events in Europe and the world, all the more so 🙂).
Similar to the crypto world. When I do not participate in buying/selling for a coin, it is much easier for me to follow the development of events on the ground, i.e., the market.
I have no profit, but no loss either. Just analyzing and learning how to avoid FOMO.

That's a good point! It's much easier to learn, research, and decide when we look at things objectively!

Interesting to have this thought from the World Cup! It just feels like there are too many countries this time round, and it's a bit hard to keep track what's going on. Or maybe I am not used to this new format. The old 32 feels better.

Agree that there are a bit too many this WC! It was much easier to follow before... Also, not sure for you local time for the matches, but here in Europe, from 4 matches a day, maybe 1 or max 2 are at the "normal" time... 😃

Some of them are while I am sleeping, some of them are in the morning (during my working hours), it happens. I don't have a favourite country that I support, maybe I will watch the matches closer to final 16 or final 8, in the meantime, news and highlights are good enough.

The truth is that commentators' job is to attract an audience; they'll always say what the public wants to hear, and sometimes they say things we'd never want to hear just to create that roller coaster of emotions that hooks the audience, but in the end, no one has a magic wand. Your post is very interesting.

they'll always say what the public wants to hear

Isn't it like that everywhere? 😃 Nobody wants to hear the truth if it's ugly... 😃
