Secrets of the Table — Chapter 10

The Wobbly Table

Hello dear Ladies of Hive community,

There are things at work that I have learned to fix without making too much fuss about them.

A table that wobbles is one of those things.

One afternoon, while preparing the terrace, I noticed that one of the tables was moving every time someone leaned on it. Nothing serious, but enough to make a cup shake and a plate slide slightly.

I looked underneath and immediately knew what was happening.

One of the legs was just a little shorter than the others.

I could have complained about it. I could have waited for someone to repair it. Instead, I found a small piece of cardboard, folded it a couple of times, and placed it under the leg.

The table stopped wobbling.

It was not a perfect repair.

But it worked.

I smiled because sometimes we make life much more complicated than it needs to be.

We often think that when something is not perfect, it must be replaced or completely fixed.

A table should have four legs of exactly the same length.

A house should always be tidy.

A relationship should never have disagreements.

We should always know what we are doing.

And we ourselves should somehow arrive at every stage of life without cracks, mistakes, doubts, or imperfections.

But perhaps that is an impossible way to live.

The table reminded me of something very simple.

It did not need to become perfect to be useful again.

It only needed a little support in the right place.

I think people can be like that too.

Sometimes we go through periods when we are not completely balanced. We get tired. We make mistakes. We change. We carry things that other people cannot see.

That does not necessarily mean that we are broken.

Sometimes we simply need to adjust something.

Rest a little.

Ask for help.

Change the way we are doing things.

Or accept that we cannot always carry everything alone.

I also think about the people around us.

We can spend too much time noticing what is wrong with someone and forget everything that person brings to our lives.

A friend may have a difficult character but be the first person to show up when we need help.

A family member may make mistakes and still be capable of giving us the warmest embrace.

Even we ourselves can be imperfect and still have something valuable to offer.

That little piece of cardboard under the table did not make it beautiful.

It simply allowed the table to do what it was meant to do.

Hold plates.

Hold cups.

Hold conversations.

Hold moments.

And perhaps that is enough.

Maybe life does not always ask us to become perfectly balanced.

Maybe sometimes it simply asks us to find the little support that helps us keep going.

Secretos de sobremesa — Capítulo 10

La mesa coja

Fuente Pixabay

Hola querida comunidad de Ladies of Hive,

A veces simplemente necesitamos ajustar algo.

Descansar un poco.

Pedir ayuda.
