When I hear the phrase “beauty begins with us and comes from within,” I don't immediately think about makeup, clothes, or looking perfect. For me, beauty has increasingly become something that can be noticed in the way we treat other people.

Working in tourism has taught me this in a very practical way. Every day I meet people from different countries, with different personalities, customs, expectations, and ways of communicating. Some arrive tired after a long journey, others are excited about their vacation, and sometimes someone simply needs a little patience because things have not gone according to plan.

In those moments, a smile, a kind word, or simply taking the time to listen can make a difference.

I have learned that you can be perfectly dressed and have everything about your appearance in order, but if you treat people badly, none of that says much about you. On the other hand, someone who is genuinely kind, respectful, attentive, and willing to help can leave a beautiful impression without making any special effort to stand out.

That is the kind of beauty I appreciate more as I get older.

I still like to look presentable, of course. When I go to work, I want to feel prepared for the day and give a good impression to the people I meet. But today, I think much more about what I am going to transmit than about whether everyone will like how I look.

For me, feeling good also means having enough energy to do my job with patience, keeping a positive attitude when possible, and remembering that the person standing in front of me may be carrying their own worries that I know nothing about.

Some of my personal care habits are very simple. I try to rest whenever I have the opportunity, drink enough water during long working days, and eat something before starting a demanding shift. I also try to take a few minutes to breathe when the day becomes overwhelming.

Since my work requires me to speak with many people, I have learned to take care of my voice too. Sometimes I forget how much we use it until the end of a long day!

And perhaps one of the most important things I try to do is leave work at work when I return home. Not always successfully, of course, but I try. I believe that taking care of ourselves also means knowing when we need to stop carrying the day's problems.

I don't think beauty is about trying to make everyone see us positively. It is about being comfortable with the person we are becoming and making sure that what comes from inside us is something we can be proud of.

For me, that is a kind of beauty that never goes out of fashion.

Trabajar en el turismo me ha enseñado esto de una manera muy práctica. Cada día conozco personas de diferentes países, con distintas personalidades, costumbres, expectativas y formas de comunicarse. Algunos llegan cansados después de un largo viaje, otros están emocionados por sus vacaciones y, en ocasiones, alguien simplemente necesita un poco de paciencia porque las cosas no han salido como esperaba.

En esos momentos, una sonrisa, una palabra amable o simplemente tomarse el tiempo para escuchar puede marcar una diferencia.

He aprendido que una persona puede estar perfectamente arreglada y tener todo en orden en cuanto a su apariencia, pero si trata mal a los demás, nada de eso dice demasiado sobre ella. En cambio, alguien que es verdaderamente amable, respetuoso, atento y dispuesto a ayudar puede dejar una hermosa impresión sin hacer ningún esfuerzo especial por destacar.

Mis hábitos de cuidado personal son bastante sencillos. También trato de tomarme unos minutos para respirar cuando el día se vuelve demasiado intenso.

Como mi trabajo requiere que hable con muchas personas, también he aprendido a cuidar mi voz. ¡A veces uno no se da cuenta de cuánto la utiliza hasta que termina un día largo!

Y quizás una de las cosas más importantes que intento hacer es dejar el trabajo en el trabajo cuando regreso a casa. No siempre lo consigo, por supuesto, pero lo intento. Creo que cuidarnos también significa saber cuándo necesitamos dejar de cargar con los problemas del día.
