As August comes to an end, looking back at the past four weeks leaves me with a feeling between amused and bewildered. This month hasn't just been about routine; it has been an absolute marathon of celebrations. Counting quickly, I attended or sent wishes for more than nine birthdays of

close people... and that is without even including my own!

However, as I look at the upcoming calendar for September, the contrast is radical: zero birthdays. Nobody. Not a single relative, friend, or close acquaintance blows out candles in the ninth month of the year.

This is where basic math and popular logic seem to completely break down.

If we do the reverse math of human gestation (subtracting approximately nine months):

• Born in August: Conceived around November. A standard, regular month without major year-end holidays or long vacations in most places.
• Born in September: Conceived in December.

In theory, December is the month of festivities, relaxation, gatherings, and free time. One would naturally assume by logic that all that holiday spirit and vacation time would result in a massive wave of baby births in September. Yet, at least within my personal social circle, that statistic fails miserably. In my environment, November seems to have historically been a month of intense "activity," while December turned out to be surprisingly quiet in that regard.

It is truly curious how certain patterns concentrate so heavily in a single month—leaving your agenda packed with cake and parties—only to transition into a month of total festive silence.

Sin embargo, al mirar el calendario que se avecina para septiembre, la diferencia es radical: cero cumpleaños. Nadie. Ni un solo familiar, amigo o conocido cercano apaga velas en el noveno mes del año.

Aquí es donde la matemática básica y la lógica popular parecen romper la ecuación por completo.

Si hacemos la matemática inversa de la gestación (restando aproximadamente nueve meses):

• Nacidos en agosto: Debieron ser concebidos alrededor de noviembre. Un mes común y corriente, sin grandes festividades de fin de año ni vacaciones largas en la mayoría de los países.
• Nacidos en septiembre: Debieron ser concebidos en diciembre.

En teoría, diciembre es el mes de las fiestas, la relajación, los encuentros y el tiempo libre. Uno asumiría por lógica que todo ese espíritu navideño y las vacaciones traerían una ola masiva de nacimientos en septiembre. Pero, al menos en mi entorno social y familiar, la estadística falla estrepitosamente. En mi círculo, noviembre parece haber sido históricamente un mes de muchísima "actividad", mientras que diciembre resultó ser un mes sorprendentemente tranquilo en ese aspecto.

Resulta muy curioso cómo ciertos patrones se concentran tanto en un solo mes hasta dejarte la agenda llena de pastel y reuniones, para luego pasar a un mes de absoluta calma festiva.
