If I Ruled The World...

It's amazing the things that can inspire you to write a blog post....

Especially when you are just spending time on the blockchain. So shameless promotion for everyone to get more active n the blockchain ;)

This afternoon I was poking around Threads and was noticing the lack of upvotes that seemed to be be coming from the community. Not on my account per se, just in general. Which is odd, because Threads is uaully very liberal with the voting of content.

So of course, I opened my big mouth...

And what's funny, well not really funny...But I'm not joking.

Let's rewind a bit to explain my 'ah ha moment' when I first discovered this blockchain back in 2017. Proof of stake, excuse me, delegated proof of stake was this really cool way of distributing rewards from the inflation pool for this blockchain.

The moment I realized that your 'voting power' regenerates at about 20% per 24 hours, it simply blew me away. Think of the potential of this...You could set up a business and 'pay' your employees with upvotes if you had enough Hive Power.

Sure you are at the mercy of the markets, but the idea to be was just scratching the surfacer of what could be down with upvotes. I had a goal to build up as much Hive Power as I could, simply to upvote as many people as I could.

What a place this would be! Upvotes for everyone! Utopian even!

But alas....Downvotes lol

My dreams of a utopian blockchain came to crashing halt as I saw the ego and pride that made it's home with some of the larger accounts on the blockchain. It was obvious back then, it was never designed to help everyone get rich or get crypto...It was built for the privileged few.

What a waste of such powerful and life changing technology.

But alas, it became crystal clear I would never 'help the community' on Hive with my puny voting power so I decided to focus on $LEO where I may actually be able to be an influence.

And slowly, I'm able to actually give out sizeable upvotes which may not change people's lives now...But who knows what can happen down the road.

You see, that's the potential of this place. All the blah blah blah about protecting the rewards poool is utter nonsense...Wanna know why I feel that way? Look at how much the rewards pool has been 'protected' and we are still a tiny blockchain in a billion dollar crypto market.

I personally think it's because we aren't liberal with the upvotes and I get it...Your stake, you can do with it as you please...But my goodness, if you gave me a few million $HIVE power, I'd be upvoting everyone to absolutely burn through my voting power daily LOL

Utopian dreams. Maybe I know nothin about economics and how things really work here...But you know what I do know, people. And people LOVE to feel valued.

Go upvote more peolple!

Been noticing the same way over snaps. When it first started there were more upvotes but then yeah these days barely anybody is upvoting anybody. Not sure why but I mean when upvoting someone we get some rewards too, there's no harm in there.

i dont get it because it literally comes back to your account every day, plus you get rewarded for it. no idea why people hold onto votes

Indeed! I think if they want to strategically do that sure but like why hold on to the things that can also generate extra HP.

Hive is great in how we are rewarded and I agree that people love being rewarded. Downvotes are a part of the system, and it does help protect the reward pool to an extent. I just don't see any other alternative as it is, and I think there are places like BLURT if they don't want downvotes. Of course, I don't know how that place is doing as I don't visit it.

I think downvoting / self policing is great. Makes sense to keep abuse away...However it's more of an ego trip now. Not really protecting the chain, just protecting self interests.

My goal is also to power up as much HIVE as I can, and thus I can upvote as many posts as possible on the blockchain. I also urge people to power up!

That's fine and all, but dont do like I did and miss all the opportunities because we have blinders on

What an insightful post about the power of upvotes! You're absolutely right - this blockchain could be so much more vibrant if we all shared the voting love more generously. Your vision of a utopian upvote economy is inspiring, even if reality has been less ideal. Keep spreading those meaningful upvotes on LEO - small acts of appreciation can indeed make a big difference over time. The psychology of feeling valued is spot on!

It would fire people up like nothing else. When I got my first whale upvote, it changed my life. Now they ignore me lolol

Some prefer to be the head of a mouse rather than the tail of a lion.

Selfish and greedy attitudes prevail sadly.

I just feel everyone can help each other with the little they’ve got. With my little HP, I upvote a lot. I know it can’t make any difference but on the long run, it will begin to make differences
