Verbal Appreciation Means More to Me.

Affection - What kind of expression of affection do you like to receive? Why? How do you show affection to someone? Why?

Let me start with a brief explanation of what affection is. Affection is a feeling of likeness or love to someone or something and caring about them too.

Different people have their own unique way of expressing affection to someone or something. Though, it depends largely on the kind of relationship. But for the purpose of this prompt my submission will be on neutral grounds.

When it comes to receiving affection, gifts are good but it doesn't really appeal more to me like verbal appreciation does. Not that I dislike giving gifts but genuinely acknowledging my efforts or kind gesture with kind loving words and words of encouragement even in the absence of gift means more to me.

Reason being that I wouldn't like someone to feel indebted to me, for not giving or wanting to give, for any reason. Showing gratitude by way of kind words shows empathy and sends a message that the person actually appreciated what I did. It also triggers my spirit to want to do more.

Showing affection to someone on the other hand depends on their preference. But I don't fail to appreciate, encourage and give too no matter how little. I also compliment them. I seek to find something about the person and compliment it. It could be the outfit or smile, genuine compliment, not flattering.

Showing affection isn't complete without showing some atom of care. I make it as a point of duty to call or drop a message to check on someone I care about. Surprisingly, I found out that a lot of people, especially the elderly ones cherish this act even more than anything else. They feel loved and cared for.

Expression of affection means different things to people, to some, just being around them is enough. To some others, “I love you” means nothing without a gift. While to someone else verbal appreciation and encouragement is everything and more to them, and that is where I belong. I equally encourage, compliment, show care and buy gift depending on what they prefer, as an expression of affection.
