Stair Railings Build, Minot Discovery Center, Records, Evening Walk - Thursday

My 7am waking here is 5am at home, only here the sun is just coming up. Thankfully it doesn't mess with my internal clock too much the time zone difference.

It was mid morning yesterday when I was in the garage and getting the railings built. I went for the strongest design I could muster and this ended up being perfect. I got six 4ft lengths of 2x4 and used 3 per railing. Managed to get the angled cuts right so the rail sits right on the supports. The cross bar is screwed to the step with the supports locked to the wall and step.

The second railing went together faster as I was just copying the left side one. My FIL is now much happier and able to easily get outside and to the car.

I then got the shower heads all swapped around and had to pop out the water saving devices to give better volume so their master bathroom heads both spray correct. I may pop the one off and see if I can remove even more as it is still a bit anemic of a flow. The others all work great though.

While MIL was at a retirement party for an old coworker we took the boys to the Discovery Center where we have been before. The boys enjoy the place and there are some nifty displays and things to do.

The harvesting setup is cool. They have a big setup that shows the way grain can be run through harvesters and into silos. It is a 3 story building with each floor having various displays. This was the top floor, then the bottom had the water level with a big water table and various pumps and setups for moving water in different ways.

Went to Walmart and HOLY SHIT!!! they have a display with LP RECORDS!!!! WTF?! There is maybe one shop in all of Spokane that carries LPs still, this is in the Minot Walmart! J got the Alice In Chains Jar Of Flies LP. Even though we don't have a record player, he will likely mount it on his wall. Also got the boys real luggage finally so they have good hard sided rolling suitcases.

Sunset and dinner outside in the nice evening air.

@stryeyz and I went for a couple mile walk around the North Minot hill and headed for the 11th and 11th park where we saw a doe in the small jewish cemetery. Her 3 fawns were behind us by the street and we didn't see them until we turned around. They ran around the fence and caught up with the doe where we saw them as we headed back to the house. They all seemed pretty mellow as they are "city" deer and used to people it appeared. The walk back up the hill was rather mellow and I could tell my cycling has really strengthened my legs.

Today I have a list of stuff to finish up. Grab bars finally install, beds finish assembling, A/V stuff hooked up to the new tv, probably move a new couch into the house if MIL picks one out today, fiddle with the shower head, and likely get clothes washed to pack clean instead of dirty for the return trip.

You've squeezed a great deal into each day. Your projects look good.
I am from a record-playing generation, so we have a record/CD/cassette player. It's not fancy, but I use it often. The one device we lack is an 8-track player, but I never owned any of those. It was a passing "thing."

I remember reel to reel when I was a kid, the 8 track was in the car, we had a big c-band satellite dish, records and tapes, and vhs.

My parents had a reel-to-reel! My brother bought it for them in the late 60s or early 70s when he was stationed in Korea in the air force. He taped many of his records onto reel-to-reel tapes, and we could listen for hours without having to turn over a record. It seemed wonderful at the time. In a way, I wouldn't mind having that convenience now. But the equipment sure took up a chunk of space. My dad built a cabinet just for that. I have no idea what became of it.
