Grain Run, Spreading, 3D Printer, Filament, Thanksgiving With Friends - Thursday

I was on the road yesterday morning before 5am headed to town for a load of grain. The roads were quite empty and I was able to get to the brewery in 20 minutes. That early in the morning the stop lights actually work on sensors instead of timing so I'm not wasting oodles of time sitting, plus they are far easier to time when no one is sitting in the lanes.

I had a 4 barrel load to pile into the trailer.

Each barrel gets walked to the ramp, slid up onto the trailer, then tipped over into the bed liner where I shovel it all out.

IMG_20241128_050740.jpg

The 4 barrels fit the liner perfectly without much slopping out onto the wood.

After 10 minutes I had all 4 barrels loaded and I was blazing back to the farm.

I had backed the trailer into the garden and up near the greenhouse then once it was light I went out to spread the grain. I coated a 50x20 section near the greenhouse but will want a good bit more on the uphill end of the greenhouse area. The soil there is super sandy and rocky and I've been trying to build it up for years.

I left some grain in the liner so the sheep could have some and backed the trailer in and dumped the liner for them.

I had to troubleshoot the #3dprinter as it had stopped printing. I ended up finding that the filament wouldn't feed through the feeder. I took the head apart numerous times before I finally keyed in on the problem.

IMG_20241128_092540.jpg

This section of the filament was a tiny bit too big and was stopping the flow. After hacking the section out the filament slid right back into the machine and away it went printing.

I got the printer working and dropped pieces from the print to get it to a short enough time. I now have the pieces for my #yagi #antenna which I will work on building today.

Then J found Warp Tube planter pots. If you know Super Mario Bros then you know the warp tube. We just need to find venus fly traps to grow in them!

The print finished and I got the next one going which was the ski wax vise, only this time I found how to put in supports so it would print right. Then we were on the road north to our friend's house. Stupid amount of traffic too! We got to their place around 1:30.

Their dog Lewis is as big as R and being a puppy still doesn't quite realize just how big he is. R and Abo were attached at the hip the whole time we were there and played pretty non-stop.

J and T were out on the quad hauling ass up and down their road in the light of the afternoon. We ate a delicious meal and had a great time together until evening. Wes and I went out to hookup the wood chipper to the car so I could tow it home.

IMG_20241128_144130.jpg

A bit after 6pm we were on the road home and again had to deal with oodles of traffic once on the highway.

IMG_20241128_181321.jpg

It is rather slick the Creality app since I could watch the print ongoing from my phone while we were away and at one point I opened it to see the print had errored and stopped the print. I was a bit annoyed but once home I saw that is was a 2000 error and gave the option to resume the print, which I did.

IMG_20241128_204227.jpg

I realized another mistake as I needed a support for this. So I printed another one overnight only printed 90 degrees different. This morning I pulled them from the machine and they look really nice.

IMG_20241128_204237.jpg

I got barely 15 minutes soaking as my skin is on fire again. I had to coat super heavy with the topicals before bed.

Today I will hopefully get my antenna built, push more prints through the machine, the Kraken play at noon, I'll order a ton more filament and colors, maybe work on the antenna tower, order the AG-15 insect cloth for next year's garden to protect the cabbage/kale/cauliflowers from the bugs, and wood rounds need to be trundled down the hill then hauled to either the yard for splitting or the wall for stacking/curing.

3-D printer sounds amazing. Glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!🤗

It is amazing! So worth the money. There are a bunch that are sub $300 that work great too, but it is a serious rabbit hole to jump into.

I’m sure there’s a learning curve……🙄
Enjoy !👍

It's actually not too steep. There is oodles of info available and they really are pretty straight forward mechanically. From what I'm seeing the real learning curve is the variety of materials that can be used and the nuances of each.

Do you not dry your filament? The only time I have ever had issues like that is when the filament was wet. I am pretty obsessed about drying my filaments, lol. I have a Sunlu filament dryer assigned to all of my machines. I always dry after opening a new roll for at least 4-5 hours before using it then keep the dryer on while it's going.

I didn't on this first roll of black but the white roll I'm putting in this morning has been in the dryer for quite a while now. I'm figuring every roll I unwrap will go to the dryer, I can only use one at a time anyway and am figuring I will run the filament out of the dryer instead off the spool holder on back.

Yeah, they still get moist as hell in the wrapper from the factory. I dry everything before I print it. Learned from too many messed up prints, lol. I mean, for most of the things I am doing, I am really not in a hurry, it's not really a business right now, more for personal and farm use, so I don't mind waiting a few hours for it to dry before I start printing.

I got the 2 roll dryer so just tossed the remnants of the black roll in as I'm using the white in the other slot. I was a bit too excited to get printing to do the drying on the first roll but I'm making it the first step in my process from now on.

Winters have come and in winters this kind of work becomes more difficult in which we ourselves have to work a lot more and carry more weight.
