Big Grain Run, Spreading, Ultimate Ram Challenge 4 Mile Obstacle Run, Bridle, PDC, Kiting, Pizza Factory, Car Parts, UFC - Saturday

Bright and early yesterday morning I was out and on the road to town for grain. I managed to be on the road by 5:30 and had to contend with more traffic than normal on the bypass.

I got to the first brewery and had 3 and a partial barrel to load. There was no weirdness around this time and I soon had the grain in the trailer.

Then I drove to downtown and loaded the pair of barrels that were waiting for me.

I got home and pulled the trailer around to the lower garden spot that I didn't grow in this year. I spread a bunch of the grain around and will spread the ashes around later. This will become the strawberry garden next spring. I plan to order a few hundred plants to go in rows in this spot.

Then the rest of the grain got shoveled out into the sheep pen. A good ton of grain moved I got the trailer unhooked then was soon getting ready for the run.

This is the first year that the high school cross country team put on the Ultimate Ram Challenge obstacle race. It was a 4.5 mile run with 30 obstacles all around the school grounds. I didn't have any desire to be in the competitive race so did the open. @stryeyz and I were in the second wave start and I was hurting pretty fast. The pain mostly went away as I got into the run, my first mile was sub 10 minute. The main problem ended up having to wait at some obstacles which killed the pace. I ended up only skipping 2, the tire swing which had 15 people around it and took forever then the water dunk as I hate running with wet feet.

I managed to finish in just under 1 hour which was my goal. You can see the times that I was waiting in my pace chart. I ended up passing a few of the people in the competitive race and a number from the wave before us.

While we were running R ran his race and got first in his age group. It was FOREVER then for J to run his race which he got second to Eli who is highly pressured by his parents.

After his race we headed the shorts ways back to the farm.

The mail had my tow bridle!!!! I can now go to my SIV course next month. I messaged Levi to ask if he can give a couple tows in the next weeks so I can get the hang of it before going to my course.

HAH HAH HAH England got SPANKED by Germany! The Lukes got beat bad!

IMG_20250614_115829.jpg

The boys had a birthday party to go to so while @stryeyz took them I went up on the hill to try some kiting. The wind was looking variable but possible until I got up there.

IMG_20250614_145923.jpg

It was a serious fight to get it in the air and to keep it there. The winds went from south the north in a moment then died totally all while I watched the trees across the highway waving all around.

IMG_20250614_152150.jpg

My flagging showed the weirdness. I finally gave up and headed down the hill.

While they were gone I found what the problem with the sled is. There is a hose that I didn't realize was there and it is the problem. It runs from the water pump and does a 90 into a pipe just 5 inches away. I searched and the factory formed part is $34!!!!!! WTF!?!?!?

wtf.JPG

So I found the dimensions of the tube and then searched for the straight tube and would you look at that.... $3 per foot and I only need 8 inches.

wow.JPG

@stryeyz offered to go pick up the parts and also get pizza for dinner. She went to Autozone and got the new fuel filter for the sled and they just gave her a 1 foot length of the tubing that was in their scrap bin for free! Why would I pay $34 for a piece of hose that only needs $3 worth? I will get it changed out this morning.

My hometown pizza place that I grew up with. BEST tasting crust ever. Still to this day none have matched it.

IMG_20250614_180715.jpg

Local Chiesa was fighting in the UFC and got the decision in a close bout. Rose got her win and I was not happy with the Craig decision.

IMG_20250614_181527.jpg

Out to soak then in to to watch a bit before bed.

Today I will get the hose swapped on the sled, we will likely go on a family bike ride to the lake and back, work around the farm, PDC final, and maybe some actual relaxing.

So, let's back up... So you are getting old grains from breweries and using them for what??? I am very curious... Will this work for bedding in a chicken pen?

I spread the grain on all my gardens every winter then till it in as a soil builder. Then when the gardens are growing I give it to my sheep and alpaca since it has off gassed already and they don't bloat as easy, then the chickens pile into it and devour it for weeks. I also spread it over weedy areas to blot out the weeds.

The grain is wet and heavy so would have to be spread to dry before being used as bedding. It takes the stuff a long time to dry even in mid summer, the top is dry but an inch deep is still wet.

Excellent that you found the problem with the hose by the water pump!👍😊
Sounds very similar to the what they had on my Subaru brat except mine was metal with a hole!🙄
