Happy Father's Day - Cooper Drawing from Interstellar [ENG-ESP]

Hello, dear drawing and crafting friends who make a living in this beautiful community, I hope you are all well. On this special day, I want to congratulate all those who are fathers, an honor I also share in being the father of a beautiful little girl, and to this day and until the last of my days, it has been the most beautiful gift of life. To pay tribute to all those who care for and raise their children, I have made a drawing of one of the best fathers in cinema, Cooper, the protagonist of Insterstellar, one of the best science fiction films of all time. He is my favorite character, since I believe his role as a father leaves us with a beautiful message: traveling so many light years away to search for a new home for the human race out of love for his children. The special connection he has with his daughter Murph always touches my soul. I made the drawing when Cooper is trapped in the 5th dimension and from there he can see all the moments of his daughter's life, without a doubt a scene that makes your skin crawl. I made it on black cardboard because I thought it had a better finish. I hope you like it.

Hola queridos amigos dibujantes y artesanos que hacen vida en esta hermosa comunidad, deseo que todos se encuentren muy bien. En este día tan especial quiero felicitar a todos aquellos que son padres, honor que también comparto al ser padre de una hermosa niña, y hasta el día de hoy y hasta el último de mis días, ha sido el regalo más hermoso de la vida. Para hacer un homenaje a todos aquellos que cuidan y crían a sus hijos he realizado un dibujo de uno de los mejores padres en el cine, Cooper, protagonista de Insterstellar, una de las mejores películas de ciencia ficción de todos los tiempos, es mi personaje favorito ya que su rol de padre creo que nos deja un hermoso mensaje, alejarse a tantos años luz de distancia para buscar un nuevo hogar para la raza humana por amor a sus hijos. La conexión tan especial que tiene con su hija Murph siempre llega a mi alma, he realizado el dibujo cuando Cooper queda atrapado en la 5ta dimensión y desde ahí puede ver todos los momentos de la vida de su hija, sin duda una escena que te deja la piel erizada, lo he realizado en cartulina negra porque me pareció de un mejor acabado, espero que les guste.

PROCESS

I started with a very simple sketch, using only a white school pencil. Its tip isn't as creamy, its color isn't as intense, and it's perfect for making guidelines or for beginning the softer sections of any drawing. Since this is a portrait, I start by adding the first lines, which I then gradually fill in until they become more intense.

Comencé haciendo el boceto muy sencillo, solo utilizando un lápiz blanco escolar, ya que su punta no es tan cremosa, el color no es intenso y sirve para hacer líneas guías o para comenzar las partes más suaves de cualquier dibujo. Como aquí se trata de un retrato, pues voy poniendo las primeras lineas las cuales solo después toca rellenar poco a poco hasta aumentar la intensidad.

Next, I add the rest of the visible parts. At that moment, Cooper was in the fifth dimension, with only the light shining in front of him, a reflection that could only be seen slightly as he moved through space-time—an incredible scene. So, to recreate that light effect in the drawing, I gradually fill in the details with Prismacolor Premier, which is a little creamier and also more intense.

Seguidamente voy haciendo el resto de las partes que aperecen visibles, en ese momento Cooper se encontraba en la 5ta dimensión, solamente la luz le daba se frente, reflejo que podía verse solo un poco cuando el se movía por el espacio-tiempo, una escena increíble. Así que para recrear en el dibujo ese efecto de la luz voy poco a poco rellenando con color prismacolor premier que es un poco más cremoso y también más intenso.

After using the creamy whites, I begin using white, but this time with charcoal. This color texture is even more intense, very similar to pastel chalk, only more compressed. Another advantage is that it can be dipped in water, and the tip can then be turned into paint. However, I only use this advantage to create sparkles or glass effects, such as the light shining in eyes, which makes the realism look better.

Después de haber utilizado los colores blancos cremosos, comienzo a utilizar el color blanco pero esta vez carboncillo, esta textura de color es aun más intensa, muy parecida a la tiza pastel, solo que esta más comprimida. Otra de las ventajas es que se puede mojar en agua y la punta ya puede convertirse en pintura, pero esta ventaja solo la uso como para hacer brillos o efecto vidrio, como por ejemplo el brillo de la luz en los ojos, lo que hace que el realismo se vea mejor.

After clearly marking the light on the face, contrasting with the previous color, I begin painting the glass of the astronaut's helmet. As I mentioned earlier, this is where I can moisten the tip of the white charcoal and make the strokes as if it were white paint. I paint the rest of the helmet in the same way until I'm finished.

Después de marcvar muy bien la luz en el rostro, haciendo contraste con el color anterior, comienzo a pintar el vidrio del casco de astronáuta. Como dije anteriormente, aquí es donde puedo humedecer la punta del carboncillo blanco y hago los trazos como si fuera pintura blanca. De iguual forma voy pintando el resto del casco hasta finalizar.

FINAL WORK

What did you think of the result? I think it looks very photographic. I've enjoyed this film many times. In fact, I went to the re-release in theaters for its tenth anniversary, a great experience for me. One of Cooper's best quotes about his role as a father is: "When you become a father, you are the ghost of your children's future." That phrase always made me think, and I remember that as parents, there's never a second in our lives when we wouldn't do anything for our children. Happy Father's Day to all fathers, and I'll say goodbye until another opportunity.

Qué les ha parecido el resultado? creo que se ve muy fotográfico, esta película la he disfrutado muchas veces, de hecho fui al re-estreno en cines por su décimo aniversario, una gran experiencia para mi. Una de las mejores frases de Cooper en su rol como padre es:"Cuando te conviertes en padre, eres el fantasma del futuro de tus hijos". Esa frase siempre me dejó pensativo, y de que como padres nunca existe un segundo de nuestras vidas en el cual no haríamos lo que fuera por nuestros hijos. Feliz día para todos los padres y me despido hasta una pronta oportunidad.
