The truth is, it wasn't until I met my husband that I started to understand these terms like budgets, finances, ROI, taxes, and other accounting and financial terms. Abel, being an accountant, is the one who has taught me all of this by putting it into practice.

The truth is, my budgeting, with a fixed salary, consisted of spending less than I earned each month.

Yes, I had some fixed expenses in mind: electricity, landline, cell phone (now, my children's too), gas, and water. After paying everything, I would go out and make sure we had food for the week, and of course, I always set aside some for toiletries and perfumes, as well as for going out occasionally with my family or friends.

The truth is, I'm not a spendthrift. Before, of course (before this whole economic crisis), money was worth more. Now, things are tough for everyone. Even the value of Hive has fallen drastically since October 10th of last year.

So I've had to tighten the budget. Abel and I plan every penny we spend and try to save as much as possible. We've cut back on outings and some other expenses to save as much as we can for investments.

Because there's an inescapable reality: money that isn't invested is spent. And the only way to leave something lasting for our children and guarantee a financially sustainable future for everyone is to invest and have our own business. We're not looking to make millions (although that wouldn't be bad, of course). We're looking to be able to work and generate a stable income that allows us to continue making our art and meet all our needs.

La verdad es que, no fue hasta que conocí a mi esposo, cuando comencé a manejar estos términos de presupuestos, finanzas, ROI, impuestos y demás términos contables y financieros. Abel, al ser contador, es quien me ha enseñado todo esto al llevarlo a la práctica.

La verdad es que mi manejo del presupuesto, al tener un salario fijo, consistía en gastar menos de lo cobrado en el mes.
Sí, tenía algunos gastos fijos en mente: la electricidad, el teléfono fijo, el celular (ahora, los de mis hijos también) el gas y el agua. Luego de haber pagado todo, entonces salía a garantizar la comida de la semana y, claro, siempre reservaba un poco para los productos de aseo y perfumería, así como para salir algún que otro día con mi familia o amistades.

La verdad es que no soy una persona derrochadora. Antes, claro (antes de toda esta crisis económica), el dinero valía más. Ahora la situación está difícil para todos. Hasta el valor del Hive ha caído drásticamente desde el 10 de octubre del año pasado.
Así que he tenido que apretar el presupuesto. Entre Abel y yo planificamos cada centavo a gastar y tratamos de ahorrar todo lo que podamos. Hemos reducido el número de salidas a pasear y algunos gastos en aras de recaudar lo máximo para las inversiones.

Porque hay una realidad ineludible: el dinero que no se invierte, se gasta. Y la única forma de dejar algo duradero a nuestros hijos y de garantizar un futuro económicamente sostenible para todos, necesitamos invertir y tener nuestro propio negocio.
No buscamos crear millones (aunque no sería malo, claro). Buscamos poder trabajar y generar un ingreso estable que nos permita seguir haciendo nuestro arte y satisfacer todas nuestras necesidades.
