Finding the right school for the children at our new location

Since I have been so busy with relocation to a new apartment at a different location, I have not had the time to think about my children's school resumption for the new session. It was as if I have completely forgotten about it until today's morning when my daughter asked me which school will she be attending now.

I couldn't get a straight answer to her question because I know it's not going to be an easy thing to find the perfect school for them. Schools will be fully resuming session by Monday next week, and I won't want my kids to stay home because they have already spent a whole week at home because of our relocation.

Finding the right school in a new location can be a challenging experience. We will have to find a school in the district where our housing is located. I like my children to attend school not far from home. This will reduce transportation costs as they will not need a shuttle bus to get to and from school every day.

It will not be the same for children. Everything basically about their school and learning is bound to change. It could be for better or worse, who knows. But one thing I do get right is to do proper research on the available schools in our residential area before deciding which school the kids should attend. Children are so emotional and it will be hard for them to shake the feeling of leaving their friends at their former school for a while.

In addition, changing schools means starting over. I will have to pay school fees on their first day at the new school, buy school uniforms and supplies, buy new books because the school here does not use a uniform curriculum and the same books. Everything I did at their previous school, I will have to repeat.

The kids will have to deal with cultural shock and this could take a few weeks for them to normalize.
Adjusting to a new location and culture can be overwhelming and lonely, especially when the cultural differences are so obvious. Children will be the most affected in this case, as it will be difficult for them to blend in with the local population at school, and within the among neighbors.

As a person who has moved places for quite a good number of times, I have had the opportunity to experience most of the cultural norms and understand the cultural behavior of people with different classes and beliefs. But, with kids it can be a different ball game all together. Kids are so sensitive when it comes to socialization. They don't know how to pretend when they don't like someone. They show it openly either by words or refusal to associate. Nevertheless, I will do my best to them adapt as quickly as possible.

Social integration can be difficult and challenging for kids who are introverted, but for my kids that are very outspoken, making friends at school won't be a big deal for them. But knowing who to choose as a friend will be difficult at first. Children need to socialize, but we need to watch over them.

Though the relocation might seem like a disruption to their learning and missing playmates, it however gives them the opportunity to discover new places, meet new people and something new.
