A Father's Pride: My Daughter's Academic Journey
Yesterday was one of the most proudest moments of my life as a father. My 10-year-old daughter's graduation from primary school was more than anything else, a moment of celebration of consistent excellence.
My daughter was the youngest of all her classmates but she did the common entrance exam confidently and could not only boast of success, but was also the best pupil, of her class and the school. The graduation ceremony was a full-day affair for me observing my daughter's achievements as she collected award after award. Best in Mathematics, Best in English (written and oral), Champion of the school Debate competition and also, the Best Dressed Pupil.
However, what remains even more intriguing to me, is that this is nothing new. My daughter's academic bright light has been shining since her very first day in KG1. What I notice is her ability to maintain a standard of excellence through our several family moves. Since beginning school, we have moved three different times, and even with the shift each time, she has done exceptionally well, once again placing at the top of her class.
There are no words to describe the feeling that a father gets when you see your child not only live up to expectations but exceed them as well. Her success is not defined by grades alone. They show how strong, flexible, and true she is. Whether she's talking in a debate, working out tough math issues, or getting the fine points of English, she has shown a lot of skill in different areas.
Yesterday, as I thought about her path up to now, I was not only proud of what she has done, but also moved by how steady she is and pushed by her being part of it all. Her life attests to the reality that, yes, excellence has no bounds, including circumstance and age.
As she now moves on to the next stage of her education, I could not be more confident of her success, and prouder as a father. Her life is a proof that children, even at a young age, are capable of doing great things, if only they are guided and directed.
