How to Retain a New "Hiver"?

The Role of DUO and the Onboarding Committee (HOC)

First and foremost, a big hello to the entire HIVE community. Those who follow me know that I’m passionate about stacking precious metals, but there’s another passion I share with many of you: watching this digital ecosystem we call home grow.

Bringing new users to HIVE is what we call the onboarding process. It’s relatively easy through invitations and quick sign-ups; however, the real challenge—and the one that keeps many of us up at night—is retention.

When a new author publishes their first post and finds their rewards are $0.00, or runs out of Resource Credits (RC) to comment, this causes frustration and may lead them to abandon the platform. That’s why, some time ago, together with my colleagues @bitcoinman and @thebighigg, we decided we needed to provide a tangible solution—and that’s how the DUO token was born, along with our direct support for the Hive Onboarding Committee (HOC).

The Visibility Problem and a Solution from the HOC

The Hive Onboarding Committee (HOC) has a clear mission: to help new Hive members take their first steps, guiding them in content creation and explaining the network’s basic rules.

‎But advice and guidance aren’t enough if they aren’t backed by economic incentives. On Hive, HP (Hive Power) is the engine that drives visibility, and if a new user doesn’t receive votes, they are invisible.

This is where the DUO token and its curation account, @duo-curator, come in.

How Does the DUO Ecosystem Work to Support the Community?

We didn’t design DUO to be an empty speculative token; we structured it to have real utility based on mutual growth, with the following approach:

The @duo-curator account consistently accumulates HP through its curation system. We seek out quality posts, especially from users who are trying to grow or who have just arrived on Hive thanks to the HOC.

This is not a simple automated bot that votes blindly; we aim to distribute value equitably.

Any user with a staked DUO balance can invoke the bot using the !DUO command in the comments. This allows the community to directly reward other authors by distributing small rewards in a decentralized and organic manner.

To ensure the project is self-sustaining, those who choose to purchase and stake DUO receive passive dividends in Hive generated by the curation process itself and the token’s dynamics; this is a way to reward those who entrust their capital to support the network’s growth.

We constantly open the doors of the @duo-curator account for community authors to publish as guests. This grants them a 50% share of the rewards from the curation post and additional DUO tokens to boost their own portfolios.

It’s Everyone’s Effort.

Whether you’re an investor looking to accumulate DUO through dividends or an active community member using your bot calls to cheer on a newcomer author, you’re part of Hive’s retention engine.

We want to continue strengthening @duo-curator’s HP so that every vote has a greater impact on the posts of those who need it most, but this is only possible if we keep working as a team.
