Sometimes the days feel really long to us; sometimes the nights feel three times as long as a long day.

I’m writing to you on one of those long nights when, rather than just thinking, I reflect and analyze the many situations life presents us with. And that’s when I always come to the realization that it’s incredible, sometimes, to think that none of us is exempt from a shared destiny. However, the path we take in life is obviously the result of our decisions. But let’s be honest: there are many decisions that don’t depend on us. I don’t want to romanticize it; I don’t want to get too poetic, nor do I want to delve into the subject. I hope that if anyone is reading this carefully, I can imagine they understand what I mean.

If that’s not the case, I’ll give a super simple example to show you that some decisions literally don’t depend on us.

Look at how the avenue looks this afternoon—and on an afternoon like this, I could have made $5 painting the road with yellow asphalt paint, drawing a square and writing the words “motorcycle stop”—something as simple as that, such a straightforward task, interrupted by the rain.

I think this is the second post i made about the rain, but this time is fking it up.

Just like that, there are decisions in life that literally don’t depend on us, brothers and sisters. I, too, am someone who has dreams—not to mention that, at some point, I believe my studies are where I anchor my dreams, even though I don’t always know how to fight for them. I’ve always been interested in art; I’ve always wanted to grow in that area. I’ve also experienced life on the streets and crime. A decade ago, I was addicted to drugs. Thanks to God and my family, I’ve been clean for over six years, and I have many stories that have happened in my life. But unfortunately, after being one of the most iconic figures in my town when it comes to urban culture—graffiti and hip-hop—I’ve gradually become just another ordinary Venezuelan, beaten down by the system.

This post is simply to give you something to think about. I’d like to say that every dark night has its morning—from Anderson Sonreira, to everyone.
