Great heat and ripe plums, harvest begins today
Hello everyone. Another hot day today. This heat has contributed to the fruits and vegetables ripening faster, but it has been a fruitful year. Late in the afternoon I went to the orchard.I also brought a ladder, although I'm pruning the orchard to make it easier for me to pick. The plum trees had a lot of fruit.
They were mostly ripe, although I had to leave some to ripen further because they were really hard.I separated them into crates, that is, I made a selection because my wife and I made a lot of things from plums. I am mainly in charge of making brandy and drying plums, and my wife is in charge of various specialties, from jams, compotes to cakes.I think we were a little late because the sun had already set, so we loaded the crates into the car and headed home. There's still a little bit left and I'll be back tomorrow morning. The next day we got to work. The plums were washed and the preparation for cooking the jam began. And I had to make a new sieve for drying plums because my old one started to break.
My wife puts whole plums to boil and adds a very small amount of sugar, about 200g, and when the jam boils, she puts it in the oven and lets it cook on its own. It tastes better that way and stirs it a couple of times. There's no chance of it burning.
We also cooked compote with the addition of two slices of lemon and two tablespoons of brown sugar.Pasteurized and left in a pot to cool.I took care of making a sieve and arranged the plums. I put them in the sun. I covered them with sterilized gauze because there are a lot of wasps. And they know how to eat them haha
At the end of the day, when I washed my hands and sat down to rest, I smelled the plums that were left in the crates next to the house. It was the smell of work, nature, and fruit that comes straight from the orchard. That feeling cannot be compared to anything bought in a store. What's left will be used to make homemade brandy.
Thanks for reading my post. Have a nice day everyone

Haha, let me send you some
Homemade jam is the best especially when you do the work yourself, it really makes you appreciated what goes into doing it by hand. Appears you received a very bountiful harvest from the plum trees. Take care.
