Season 2025-2026 Recap!
Last season was one where a lot changed, and I pretty much continued playing in classic with the cards and funds that I had without adding more and, in fact, withdrawing some as I sold the big rewards that I received (Trincão Rare for 215€ & Maximilian Arnold Rare for 100€)
Looking at the prices now for those cards, it pretty much says everything!

They got dumped by now into classic and Trincão lost 98.5% of his value also because he made the move to Al-Ahli which is not supported. Maximilian Arnold dropped over 95% in value. So if you play in-season competitively for some prizes during the season, you are sure to see the value of your card just go down an down and down. Each year, a ton of new cards of each player get dumped into Classic while the growth in player base is not enough to keep prices up (aside from the Players who really systematically get high scores). These extra cards also make the competition harder and the difficulty to win decent prizes with Classic increases.
This is a bit of the death loop of all Play2Earn games as nobody solved the issue of declining asset values. That said, I still enjoy Sorare, and my strategy is always to buy classic cards at a discount and when players get hot or when I get good in-season rewards I take profit. One of the things that really sucked was that Essence under 1000 doesn't transfer which made my entire play to get into Super Rare and grind at least 1 reward card if needed over multiple seasons is no longer valid. So I lost 250 Super Rare Essence which sucked.
Season 2026-2027 Changes!
The core pretty much stays the same that classic cards can compete to win in-season cards as rewards while people with in-season cards can compete for cash prices where they have to try and outpace the card value decline.
The layout once again changed and for me it has become a lot more complicated and less intuitive as you have to click so many different buttons to actually get to where you want to submit a team and the names are confusing as what aren was last year isn't fully the same.
The move last season from 5 needed cards to 7, now kind of extended to 9 cards as you optionally can add 2 substitutes in case one of your main players had a DNP. This kind of solves the issue that 1 DNP can kill your lineup but at the same time when a substituation is made the bonus % up to 6% gets removed.

Newly Bought Cards
With this new rule, 2dn goalkeepers pretty much become more valuable as you ideally want to field both the 1st goalkeeper in the main team and the 2nd goalkeeper as substitute. Cards also have become so much more affodable to the point where Limited feels like Free2Play and Rare is now limited.
Super Rare Collection
I did but mainly some really cheap cards around the 5-6$ range, but also took a small gamble on Delanghe as goalkeeper who was in talks to make a transfer. Playing super rare goalkeepers are by far the most valuable and useful but so far neither Delanghe, which I paid 28€ for or Lendfers (21€ paid for) have turned into 1st goalkeepers. Both are still young and have many years to go still.

Some of the players left the Belgian League (Verschaeren / Reynolds / Hong) and if I can sell them at a decent price I likely will.
Rare Collection Buying SpreeEspecially with goalkeepers becoming way more affordable, I went on somewhat of a buying spree first picking up Peano & Miras very cheap who now are 1st goalkeepers still and worth quite a bit more. I also some days ago bought Couke, Kone, Langenbick & Devackeneer to have more 1st and 2nd choice goalkeepers.

Aside from this, I bought some really cheap players and some potential systematic big point scorers in Zorgane, Magnee, Steuckers, Araujo, Guiagon. I also took small gambles on Llansana, Nsimba, Nyakossi.
It also looks like sobase.football is back online again as a tool to track my collection

It's nice to look at some of the better performing players / trades

However, the list of players I bought that went to absolute zero is way larger

Conclusion
I continue to have fun with Sorare but it has pretty much become a lottery where it's possible to get lucky and win a single reward card that puts you in the green again out of nowhere. I'm not counting on that though and just continue to use the collection I have only sticking to classic in the hope that some day there will be a popularity spike. Many players I know also just continue to play and have fun with it so that does say a lot. I will continue to give the occasional updates here on my blog...
