I normally leave for work 10-15 minutes early. I like to arrive early, sit, relax, sip my coffee and look at things on my phone 10-15 minutes before I start my day. The route I normally take is typically pretty fast, but it seems like ever since last year the traffic has become exponentially worse, which means I'm barely on time and stressed coming in. I finally figured out why traffic is so much worse than it was.
I normally travel up the light gray horizontal road heading towards the red pin on this map. The problem is what is happening where that pin is located. Notice there are freeway on and off-ramps right near this pin. That pin marks a school dropoff location that wasn't really used until a year ago.
The problem is made worse by the fact that there's a light right before it. You have people getting off of the freeway here. People need this right lane to turn onto the freeway. Anybody dropping off kids is holding up the right lane while they wait their turn to turn into the parking lot. I happen to need the right lane to turn off another light or two further down, so there's no point getting out just to try and jockey for position to get back in 200 feet later.
It's a terrible dropoff location. Whoever chose that location is a complete moron. Rather than waste breath and brain cells arguing with stupid people, I tested out a new route to work that bypasses the nonsense completely. The blessing in disguise is the new route saves me 5 minutes of time and a lot of unnecessary frustration in stop-and-go traffic.

That's a good relief. Sometimes people make decisions without considering the consequences on other users.
I am happy that you found another route that eases off the traffic and takes you back to resuming early.

In my town, it's the road construction diversion that forces me to take a long wide circle to get to my destination. A normal 10 km trip ended up being a 20+ km trip in a round about manner.
There are too many construction zones and projects underway this time of the year.

That sounds like our highway department here. They'll close multiple major intersections without any thought as to how many people have to travel far out of their way to get around them.
