Hey everyone! The days are flying by so fast I didn't even realize we're in the last days of August! That's right, friends, summer's over, autumn's coming, and with it, a whole avalanche of work awaits me at the university. So I tried to use these last two months to take care of several pending tasks. One of them was the car, which is definitely the biggest drain on my salary, and the second was home repairs, including painting the apartment rooms and completely replacing the water heater breaker. It was better to get all those things done than to have to deal with them while working, teaching students, or doing experiments in the lab! Even so, I've used these last few weeks to spend time with my nephew. He's growing up so fast and is in that pre-adolescent stage where they start to get rebellious and don't care about anything. So, to stay connected with him, I try to visit him and spend time with him to enjoy those moments because there's no way to get that time back, and all we can do is treasure the memories we make together. In that context, I went to visit him today with a clear purpose: to convince him to join me shadowhunting for this week's SMASH contest round #440.

We met again at the cultural center in southern Caracas. The day was impeccably clear this morning, so everything seemed to be aligning for an excellent day of shadowhunting! This cultural center hosts dance, graffiti, murals, music, and sports like skateboarding, so it has a special plaza for that, and that was the area where I was sure I would find some great shadows. When I arrived, my nephew was engaged in his favorite activity: playing Roblox. When he's not playing Roblox, he's playing Minecraft. It was necessary to get him out of that dark place and into the sun while he helped me hunt shadows.

At first, he didn't understand why we were doing this, but when I told him we were going to participate in a contest, he immediately got excited! He's very competitive, and when I tell him to participate in a challenge, he gets really enthusiastic and tries his best. So he came with me to the plaza, and he quickly captured several interesting shadows on the railings surrounding the bleachers in the skate park. The length of this shadow made it the perfect candidate for this contest. We also took shadows from the columns supporting the bleachers, which were a little less elegant than the shadows cast by the railings, but my nephew liked how the columns created perpendicular shadows. Finally, we photographed the silhouette cast by one of the lampposts, which extended in four directions. When you look at the shadow, it resembles a palm tree spreading its leaves. That's how we ended up spending the afternoon, looking for the best shades and generally doing something different than other days we've seen each other. He asked me to share the post with him when it was finished, that's how interested he was, and for me, well, I really enjoy seeing him happy doing something different.

Que tal comunidad! Los días pasan tan rápido que ni me dí cuenta que estamos en los últimos días de agosto! Así es amigos se acaba el verano, llega el otoño y con el toda una avalancha de trabajo que me espera en la Universidad. Por eso intenté aprovechar estos 2 meses para arreglar varios pendientes, uno de ellos fue el carro que definitivamente es el principal devorador de mi salario, y el segundo fueron los arreglos de la casa, entre ellos pintar los cuartos del apartamento y cambiar completamente el breaker del calentador de agua. Era mejor salir de todos esos pendientes que tener que padecerlos mientras estas trabajando y atendiendo estudiantes o haciendo experimentos en el laboratorio! Aún así he aprovechado estas últimas semanas para compartir con mi sobrino, ya esta creciendo y esta en esa etapa de la pre adolescencia que comienzan a ponerse rebeldes y no importarles nada. Por eso, para no perder el contacto con él procuro visitarlo y compartir con él para disfrutar esos momentos porque luego no hay manera de recuperar el tiempo y solo nos queda atesorar esos recuerdos que pasamos con ellos. En ese contexto fui a visitarlo hoy con un propósito claro convencerlo de acompañarme a cazar sombras para el concurso SMASH round #440 de esta semana.

Nos vimos nuevamente en el centro cultural al sur de Caracas, el día estaba impecablemente claro esta mañana así que todo parecía alinearse para ser un excelente día de caza de sombras! Este centro cultural se hace desde danza, grafiti, murales, música y también deporte como el skate por lo que tiene una plaza especial para eso y esa era la zona donde estaba seguro que conseguiría muy buenas sombras. Cuando llegué mi sobrino estaba en su actividad favorita, jugar roblox y cuando no es eso, esta jugando Minecraft, era necesario sacarlo de ese lugar que estaba a oscuras y además que tomara algo de sol mientras me ayudaba a cazar sombras.

Al principio no entendía porque estábamos haciendo esto, pero cuando le dije que participaríamos en un concurso se activó inmediatamente! Es muy competitivo y cuando le digo para participar en un reto se entuciasma bastante e intenta hacer su mejor esfuerzo. Así me acompaño a los espacios de la plaza, y rápidamente consiguió varias sombras interesantes, sobre las barandas que rodean la gradas de la plaza skater. Lo extenso de esta sombra la convirtió en la candidata perfecta para este concurso. También tomamos sombras de las columnas que sostienen las gradas un poco menos elegantes que las sobras dejadas por las barandas pero a mi sobrino le gustaba como las columnas creaban sombras perpendiculares y por último tomamos la silueta dejada por uno de los postes de luz que se extendía en 4 direcciones, al ver la sombra parece una planta tipo palmera extendiendo sus hojas. Así terminamos de pasar la tarde, buscando las mejores sombras y en general haciendo algo diferente que otros días que nos hemos visto, me pidió que le compartiera la publicación cuando estuviera terminada, así de interesado estaba y para mí, pues yo disfruto bastante verlo alegre haciendo algo diferente.

Bien amigos con esto termino mi aporte al concurso SMASH de esta semana, una sombra diurna calientica sacada del horno y con el que pase un rato alegre y diferente con mi sobrino. Espero que les haya gustado, nos vemos la próxima semana con más sombras que compartir. Saludos!
