The Trouble I Avoided

I remember hen I did the work of a bolt driver whilst i was in the city of Abuja as a side hustle during the weekends and off days, and i must say I honestly saw things. I completely understand this peoples frustration, when it comes to customers sometimes. During one of those periods when rides were scarce in Abuja due to the National fuel scarcity, most drivers were in the queue all day waiting to buy fuel, the lines were as long as you could imagine. The few who had the mind to buy black market (that is those who bought form road side dealers that sell at above market price in kegs) did. I was one of them, i bought from the black market people.

On that faithful day a lady ordered a ride from a place called Apo and I was around a place called Games village. Drivers usually declined orders from that side because of the heavy traffic. She was going to a place called Kubwa and it made sense for me to go that far to pick her up. Afterall it was a long trip to where she was going to and I preferred that. When I got to a Junction, which is about 800 meters from where she was, I noticed a lot of traffic. People who know Apo would know the traffic in that area some years ago is no joke. Bear in mind I just closed from my regular job and decided to do extra hustle. This traffic lasted for about 30 minutes. I kept communicating with her and she assured me she wasn't in a hurry. I asked if I should cancel the trip so she could get another one closer to her but she declined. "It's you I want and there are no available cabs". I said to myself that there was no way I was going to disappoint her.

The traffic was crazy that my car was actually brushed by a truck but I couldn't come out to even check it because everywhere was so tight and so i left that, as I finally escaped the traffic and got to where she was, she cancelled the trip. I kept calling her and she didn't pick up. I heard her laughing with another girl inside and making a mockery of me. I wanted to run mad that day . When she eventually came out after my persistent calls, she told me rudely that she had changed her mind and wasn't going again. No apology, nothing! I stood and looked at her for like 10 minutes straight. She said, "You want beat me?" her friend even told her, at least give him a little something(tip) for the time he used to come here " and she replied, "Do I look like an NGO?" My head was in Mars when i heard that . I avoided the temptation from the devil and swallowed my anger that day and went inside the car and drove off. I just went home, took a cold bath and slept off. I felt too humiliated. Till today I'm glad I avoided that temptation.
