HPUD August 2025

It's the first of August, and that means it's Hive Power Up Day. Yay !

I've done my bit and powered up 50 HIVE, bringing my total HP to around 12580.

Something I'm noticing more and more is that HIVE is behaving like a kind of stablecoin. While it's not pegged to anything in particular, it seems to move within a fairly consistent range. Since last June, with the exception of a brief period from December to February HIVE has moved up and down in a range between $0.17 and $0.27.

While I think we all agree it would be nice if the price went up a bit, I'm actually quite happy for it to be unexciting.

However, I do think we all need to work on building Hive up as a social platform and a place with useful apps. I'd love to see us come up with a "killer app" that really grabs popular attention. That way, we might see an influx of market capital, preferably from lots of small users rather than a single big investor. It doesn't have to be a game like SPlinterlands (although that would be nice !), it might be something like Distriator, or perhaps something that's totally left-field that meets a need for normal people who are not currently in crypto at all.

Increasing the level of adoption and avoiding stagnation is the key thing I see as a way to avoid a gradual downward slide. Of course, this also means making onboarding easier and creating tutorials to help new users (and, just as importantly, making them accessible and blindingly obvious - when I joined, it was all about digging through posts to get the info I needed).

But HPUD is all about showing we have faith in Hive as an ecosystem, so long live HPUD !
