The city and the true culture - loh contest #259 / La ciudad y la verdadera cultura - concurso LOH #259 (eng-esp)

Hello, my friends.

@elviguitarra has put me in a bind. A double bind, in fact. The first is to cook for @kerrislravenhill's Las Tunas vacation; the second is to give her a tour of Havana, as part of her three-day visit to learn about our culture.

Who really gets to know a city's culture in just three days? No one, it's impossible. So I'm going to break the mold, my friend.
On the first day in Havana, we'll go on the tourist route that appears on the postcards of every travel agency in the country (I know what I'm talking about, since I've worked for several).

We'll go to Vedado: the Malecón, to the Coopelia Hotel National...

And, of course, we'll tour the historic center of Old Havana.
In Old Havana, you'll learn about much of our folklore and Creole culture. You'll see several of our country's historical sites and, of course, its history. The good thing about my country is that its history is told, mostly by artists, its art, and Cuban culture.

It's a great ajiaco, as you've already been told.
We'll eat several of my country's signature dishes. Forget about ropa vieja… that's ancient history.
Right now, the meat Cubans crave most is pork. Roast pork is what almost all national and family holidays are celebrated with.
Roast pork, congrí (a traditional Mexican dish with rice), and yuca with mojo sauce.
But it's not all about eating. We'll also drink, as it's part of our culture. Cubans are taught to drink from a young age: how to drink and not get drunk.
Of course, not everyone learns, but that's another thing.

We'll be sipping on several of our most famous drinks, like Cuban rum, and other ionic cocktails, like the mojito, the Cuba Libre, and the canchánchara... I'm not sure which of the three I like best.

That first day, we'll end at Morro Castle for the 9:00 PM Cannon Shot ceremony.
All of that on the first day. It's quite comprehensive.
The other two days, I'll show you the life of the Cuban artist and writer. We'll visit my painter and writer friends, especially. You already had music in Las Tunas; I'll give you painting, theater, and literature.

But mostly in the streets, in our homes.

Other times, we'll go to the parks. I like them better.
You'll talk with them, listen to their stories, laugh (all of them fans of Asian culture, by the way), and ask them all the questions you have. I think you'll experience the true idiosyncrasy of the Cuban people there.

You'll see the real Cuba, not the postcards.
Just like in every country.

Hola, amigas mías.

@elviguitarra me ha puesto en un aprieto. Un doble aprieto, de hecho. El primero es cocinar para las vacaciones tuneras de @kerrislravenhill; el segundo, darle un tour por la Habana, como parte de su visita de tres días para conocer nuestra cultura.

¿Quién conoce realmente a la cultura de una ciudad en solo tres días? Nadie, es imposible. Así que voy a romper esquemas, amiga mía.
El primer día en La Habana iremos al recorrido turístico que aparece en las postales de todas las agencias de turismo del país (sé de lo que te hablo, ya que trabajé en varias).

Iremos al Vedado: Malecón, al Coopelia, Hotel Nacional...

Y, por supuesto, viajaremos por el casco histórico de la Habana Vieja.
En La Habana Vieja conocerá gran parte de nuestro folclor, de la cultura criolla. Conocerá varios de los sitios históricos de nuestro país y, claro de su historia. Lo bueno que tiene mi país es que su historia está narrada, mayoritariamente por artistas, su arte y la cultura cubana.

Es un gran ajiaco, como ya te han dicho.
Comeremos varios de los platos característicos de mi tierra. Olvídate de la ropa vieja… eso es historia antigua.
Ahora mismo la carne que más busca el cubano es la carne de puerco. Con el puerco asado es que se celebran casi todas las fiestas nacionales y familiares.
Puerco asado, congrí y yuca con mojo.
Pero, no todo es comer. También beberemos, ya que es parte de nuestra cultura. Al cubano desde pequeño le enseñan a beber: a cómo beber y no emborracharse.
Claro, no todos aprenden, pero ya esa es otra cosa.

Beberemos varias de nuestras bebidas más famosas, como el ron cubano y otros cocteles también iónicos, como el mojito, el Cuba Libre y la canchánchara… no sé de los tres cuál me gusta más.

Ese primer día terminaremos en el Castillo del Morro para la ceremonia del Cañonazo de las 9:00 PM.
Todo eso el primer día. Es bien abarcador.
Los otros dos días te mostraré la vida del artista y el escritor cubano. Iremos a visitar a mis amigos pintores y escritores, sobre todo. Ya en Las Tunas tuviste música, yo te daré pintura, teatro y literatura.

Pero en las calles, mayormente, en nuestras casas.

Otras veces nos iremos a los parques. Me gustan más.
Conversarás con ellos, escucharás sus historias, reirás (todos fanáticos de la cultura asiática, por cierto), y les harás todas las preguntas que tengas. Creo que ahí vivirás la verdadera idiosincrasia del cubano.

Verás la Cuba real, no las postales.
Tal y como pasa en cada país.
