I've always dreamed of that offer of a literary contract abroad.

Three years ago, I would have said yes without a second thought. However, today, I can't. Right now, my priority is my family, and I can't afford to be without them for two years.
Not just for the children, since they have their mother to take care of them, and @elviguitarra is an exceptional, wonderful mother: super mom!

It's just that I'm the one who needs them.

A literary contract would be magnificent for my career, I won't deny it. I imagine myself in Japan, Norway, or England... that's always been my dream since I started writing.

On the one hand, it's an incredible financial boost. Just getting paid for doing what you love most is an incomparable benefit.

If you also start to learn about another new culture, a different country, all of that will influence and improve my writing.

A contract like this always acts as a gateway to a new market, so with my effort and work, I could take my family there and ensure they also have opportunities there and improve financially and professionally.

However, as good as all this is, what I see as a downside is the two years apart from them. That's two Christmases, two birthdays, two graduations apart.

My children are in their teens; I can't and don't want to miss this wonderful stage, and they need so much from us.

There's also the point where we'll be leaving all our friends behind. Yes, we'll meet new ones, but we'll be leaving the old ones behind.
We'll be leaving everything we know behind.

It's a step that can't be taken lightly, my friends. Today I'm saying no, because I'm thinking about it too much, out of fear, and because it's just a guess.
Who knows, maybe when I have a real contract in hand, we'll say yes. Maybe it's too good to sacrifice.

Hola, amigas mías.

Yo siempre he soñado con esa oferta de un contrato literario en el extranjero.

Hace tres años atrás hubiera dicho que sí, sin pensarlo. Sin embargo, hoy mismo, no puedo. Ahora mismo mi prioridad es mi familia y no puedo permitirme el lujo de estar dos años sin ellos.
No solo por los niños, ya que tienen a su madre para cuidarlos y @elviguitarra es una madre excepcional, maravillosa: súper mamá!

Es que soy yo el que los necesita a ellos.

Un contrato literario sería magnífico para mí carrera, no lo niego. Me imagino en Japón, en Noruega o en Inglaterra... ese siempre ha sido el sueño desde que comencé a escribir.

Por un lado, es una mejora económica increíble. Solo por el hecho de que te paguen por hacer lo que más amas, es un beneficio incomparable.

Si además, comienzas a conocer otra nueva cultura, un país diferente, todo eso va a influir y mejorar mi literatura.

Un contrato de este tipo siempre funciona como la puerta de entrada a un nuevo mercado, así que, con mi esfuerzo y trabajo, podría llevar a mi familia y que también tengan sus oportunidades allá y mejorar desde el punto de vista financiero y profesional.

Sin embargo, por más bueno que sea todo esto, lo que más veo en contra son los dos años separados de ellos. Son dos navidades, dos cumpleaños, dos graduaciones separados.
Mis niños están en plena adolescencia, no puedo ni quiero perderme esta etapa tan maravillosa y que necesitan tanto de nosotros.

También está el punto en que vamos a dejar a todos nuestros amigos. Sí, conoceremos a otros nuevos, pero dejaremos a los viejos.
Dejaremos atrás a todo lo conocido.

Es un paso que no se puede tomar a la ligera, amigos. Hoy digo que no, porque lo pienso demasiado, por temor y porque solo es una suposición.
Quién sabe y cuando tenga un verdadero contrato en mano, quizás y digamos que sí. Quizás sea demasiado bueno como para sacrificarme.
