Remember Me as a Minimalist
Wow! I love the week's prompt and I must say qudos to you for setting this up.
How do you want to be remembered?
Is it for garri or eba?
My dad was a pastor and a physics teacher.
So, how do you want to be remembered?
Actually, this question strikes me really hard. Recently, I have been investing my time in learning and building skills, but I also want people to know that I lived a minimalist lifestyle.
Minimalism is very important. Let me share a few pieces of evidence to show why minimalism matters in my life.
We are living in a parasitic, vampire-like economy, and we all need to manage.
Yes we must agree to did agree that the cost of fuel is more than 5 times it original price.
We cannot even say that we want to take our Mercedes Benz when we have a better version called legedis Benz. Fueless more efficient and effective.
Hmmm! I have really changed... Before, I did not take cognisance of things like fuel, engine oil, and tyres. But now, I do. I use my car only when the journey is important. Unlike before, when I would normally take my car even for the shortest distance, right now it is not possible. Owning a car is much more of a liability 😊.
I now change my engine oil every 2–3 months based on usage. Originally, it was every week. I pump water into my water storage container once a week rather than every day. This allows me to save fuel and manage unnecessary consumption. It also improves the lifespan of the pumping machines and other devices.
So, I see the world as a simple life where you do not need to spend things anyhow but consciously manage available resources as they come. I think this answers that question, what do you want to be known for.
I look at my expenses over the month — come on, there was a significant decrease compared to the way it used to be. I’m so, so happy. I used to spend ₦100,000 on fuel every month, and this has decreased to roughly ₦30,000. So you see why this shift matters? It changes the way I see things; I have strategically planned my money and resources. 🤔
Minimalist lifestyle has changed the way I see luxury. For instance, I used to see big cars as the ultimate destination, but now I focus on how economical they are. Does this car use little fuel or not? That’s the real question.
Smile 😊
The rules I’ve set for myself are simple:
Turn off the car, electric generators, or lights when not in use.
Identify sources that can help me save more.
Use free alternatives such as solar energy.
Always weigh your options before proceeding.
Moreover, this applies to other choices too—always weigh them before going for one. 😊
Hopefully, this inspires somebody somewhere around the globe. 😊😂
