Si hay algo que el ser humano disfruta es estar motivado pero ¿Sabemos diferenciar la motivación de la obsesión desmedida? Ambas nos impulsan a actuar, tanto la motivación como la obsesión, pero mientras la primera nos hace actuar de manera saludable y amena mirando el viaje más importante que la meta la segunda la obsesión puede consumirnos poco a poco sin darnos cuenta llevándonos incluso a sacrificar nuestra propia integridad y quienes somos en el proceso. Sin duda la cultura pop ha reflejado esa guerra entre motivación y obsesión y hoy quiero poner el tema en la mesa.

Motivación: Si buscamos la definición de motivación la primera búsqueda nos arroja lo siguiente: La motivación es lo que explica por qué las personas o los animales inician continúan o terminan un cierto comportamiento en un momento determinado.

Pero mirándolo desde un punto de vista más humano me atrevería a decir que la motivación es esa chispa interior que enciende nuestra pasión y deseos de actuar en busca de un desarrollo o una mejora. Es sin duda fuerza transformadora y poderosa que nos ayuda a superar desafíos y lograr nuestras metas. En el cine si hay un personaje que personifica la motivación es el propio Rocky Balboa de la saga Rocky. Rocky no es ni quizás llegue a ser el más fuerte ágil o rápido pero tiene algo que juega a su favor durante toda la trama y es su inquebrantable motivación y determinación que lo lleva a desafiar el estado de calma y crear posibilidades a su favor. Su historia es un ejemplo de cómo en la vida no se trata de alcanzar un objetivo sino de crecer y aprender en el proceso mientras nos mantenemos fieles a nuestros valores y sobrevivimos las adversidades.

Obsesión: Según mi búsqueda pude encontrar que obsesión proviene del término latín obsessĭo que significa "asedio". Se trata de una perturbación anímica producida por una idea fija que con tenaz persistencia asalta la mente. La obsesión tiene múltiples facetas de expresión y sin dudas la palabra que más me impresiona es asedio. Esa misma pasión que una vez nos impulsó se ha convertido en un arma de doble filo que nos ataca a nosotros mismos la motivación puede muy rápidamente cruzar la línea y convertirse en obsesión lo que antes nos fortalecía pasa a asediar y atacar nuestras fortalezas entrando en nuestra vida el autosabotaje.

Es quizás la obsesión uno de los temas más recurrentes en el cine donde podemos encontrar de una forma u otra ejemplos que ilustran esta lucha. Quizás uno de los más memorables es Anakin Skywalker de Star Wars con su obsesión por el control que comienza a partir del noble deseo de proteger a los que ama pero que poco a poco es mutado en obsesión. La obsesión de Anakin viene del miedo y la necesidad de controlar las situaciones unido al miedo a la pérdida por no ser suficiente.

Pero es quizás Nina Sayers protagonista de Black Swan el ejemplo más desgarrador que la cultura pop nos ha entregado. Nina es una bailarina bendecida con el talento que solo aspira alcanzar la perfección y esta búsqueda al principio razonable la lleva a un camino oscuro y destructivo alejando a los demás de su vida y perdiendo sus valores en el proceso.
