If I Could Eliminate One Global Problem

Somehow it’s almost impossible to run out of problems. If you’re not battling with family issues, you’re dealing with the one at work. When you’re done with work, you’re embraced by the problems of your country. It’s like a never ending circle. And let’s not even add life’s baggage to , like relationship issues, bank issues etc.
In Nigeria, we like to say,

Problem no dey finish.

And it’s true. Sometimes, the pressure makes people wish there could switch lives with someone else that looks like they have it better. But the reality is, nobody is living without issues. Someone once said

If everyone could arrange their problems and put on a round table, you’d quickly pick back yours.

In other words, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Dealing with our issues isn’t always easy but admiring someone else’s situation is another problem added to your list.

If I Could End One Global Problem
If I had the chance to eliminate just one global issue, it would be poverty.

Why poverty? Because I believe 90% of the world problems today stems from it. Let’s look at some examples:

• Mortality, Disease and Malnutrition:
They’re a lot of countries with villages that have no access to clean water, good food, proper hygiene and even lack of proper healthcare. In locations like these, people die of even the most common diseases because they lack the financial capacity to afford such important necessities like treatment. Some go days without eating, so, “healthy eating” isn’t even a conversation.

• Mental stress:
Poverty creates pressure for parents that can’t provide for their children and the children who have to grow too fast to fend for themselves. Situations like this is what leads to depression and High blood pressure.

• Lack of Education:
If only people had the funds, they’re a lot of intelligent minds out there that if given the opportunity, would shake the world. Lack of resources has caused a lot of people to dropout of school, because you need to feed before you can learn.

• Increased Crime rate:
I can’t boldly speak for all but for some I’ve seen. Some people are forced into crime because of lack of money. Men and children with great potentials reduced to criminals because they were born into poverty and life isn’t taking it easy on them.

Poverty sometimes is a thing of the mind. Greed, For instance, is a kind of poverty. People that never feel like they have enough, so it’s hard for them to give, they always want more and eventually they result to stealing. We see this play out in politics these days.

They’re milions of examples to site as regards poverty and its negative effect. Poverty is a disease, and the cure for it is not money. You could get so used to being poor that it reduces your thinking capacity. The cure to poverty in my opinion is a sound mind, and this is where education comes in.

If poverty never existed, even if the government isn’t doing their job, people wouldn’t need to put their lives at risk in the name of protesting. You could simply solve your problems or get around them via your influence.
Some people believe a percentage of the poor and the rich is what keeps the world balanced.

My choice over and over again will be to eliminate poverty, because the world will finally know peace, at least to a very fair extent.
